Toyota RAV4 heading to Australia, will PH have it too?

MANILA: Toyota has unveiled the all-new RAV4 for the Australian market. Per the brand, it will be available in The Land Down Under with front-wheel-drive (FWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) variants - with the GR Sport trim standing in as the nameplate's top-of-the-line trim. 

Moreover, the Australia-spec next-generation Toyota RAV4 will also get hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) powertrains. 

In its most powerful form as the GR Sport, it uses a PHEV AWD system propelled by a 2.5-liter gasoline mill. The said engine is supported by front and rear electric motors and a 22.7-kilowatt-hour (kWh) lithium-ion battery. The model also has an electric-vehicle-only mode, though no range figures were shared for now.

For now, no torque figures were provided by Toyota Australia, but the RAV4 GR Sport is said to have a combined maximum output of 304 horsepower (hp). 

Combined with its PHEV powertrain, the top-spec GR Sport trim will be equipped with high-performance dampers, a retuned suspension system, a stiffer rear suspension brake, and a wheel track that’s wider by 20 millimeters, at least when compared to the standard variants. 

Other notable features of the Australia-spec next-gen Toyota RAV4 include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• 20-inch black allow wheels
• LED lighting
• Tilt and slide panoramic sunroof
• Heads-up display
• Dual wireless smartphone charging pads
• Digital rear-view mirror
• Nine-piece JBL speaker set
• Toyota Safety Sense (advanced driver-assist systems)

To note, the next-gen Toyota RAV4 will arrive in Australia in the first half of 2026. Initially, it debuted in Japan and North America back in May 2025.

Power-wise, the locally available Toyota RAV4 uses a 2.4-liter HEV powertrain capable of producing up to 215 hp and 221 Newton-meters of torque. Both trims are front-wheel-drive, fitted with continuously variable transmissions (CVT).
