Toyota Vios: Key features explained

There is a Vios for everyone out there because it is available in a total of nine variants. Yes, nine! So, you can go through each of the variant, which we have already covered in detail in our previous story, and analyse which one of it would suit your needs and budget and then make your decision.

There must be a reason, or should we say reasons, why the Toyota Vios is one of the best selling sedans in the country. In this story, we are going to quickly explain the key features of the sedan.

On the outside

The Toyota Vios features a mix of sporty and elegant looks. There are two main elements of the car that help you in identifying it. The first one is the set of huge halogen projector headlamps at the front. They are so massive that they consume most of the space available up front. But the thing is, even after their large dimensions, they don’t look out of place. That’s Toyota at its best. The second element is also related to the lighting; it is the pair of rear LED tail lights. To complement the headlamps, these are also designed to be quite big. And just like the headlamps, they, too, fit in just right.

Now, moving on to the other exterior features. The front bumper is quite sporty thanks to the blacked-out radiator grille and stylish fog lamp housings. Also, the presence of LED daytime running lights adds to the looks of the car. The side profile of the Vios is kept busy by the nice and elegant alloy wheels. And we also have body skirting at the front, rear, and side. Toyota has also added a boot lid integrated rear spoiler for that extra oomph.

On the inside

Perhaps, one of the most highlighting features on the inside of the Vios is its seven-inch touch screen infotainment system. It supports CD/MP3 and comes with Bluetooth, AUX, and USB connectivity. Toyota has also provided Weblink for iOS and Android for smartphone integration. Talking about space, there is an ample amount of that in the cabin. The seats are well-cushioned and offer good support and comfort.

The automatic AC makes things even better. You can switch between the two available driving modes - Eco and Sport - simply by a push of a button. Talking about buttons, there is also a push to start/stop button. Oh yes, we almost forgot to mention Toyota’s Optitron instrument cluster that not only looks great but is also quite informative.

Under the hood

The Toyota Vios specs show two engine options - a 1.3-litre four-cylinder unit which produces 98 hp at 6,000 rpm and 123 Nm at 4,400 rpm and a slightly more powerful 1.5-litre engine that churns out 106 hp of max power at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 140 Nm that kicks in at 4,200 rpm.

Both the engine options are available with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT unit. So, it comes down to your personal preference. Be convinced that both the engines are extremely refined & smooth and you would not have any complaints whatsoever.

Safety equipment

If you are our regular reader, you must be aware of the fact that we can’t help but emphasise on the availability of proper safety equipment in a car. And the Toyota Vios is one of those cars which haven’t given us a chance to complain about its safety features. Toyota has done a commendable job in this department.

The Vios comes with seven SRS airbags (dual front, side, curtain, and knee), vehicle stability control, hill-start assist, ABS with EBD and brake assist, etc. And the best part is that all these safety features don’t vary from one variant to the other. They all come as standard across the range. It shows how much value Toyota gives to the safety of its customers.

We are nothing but impressed with the Vios. The sedan is available in a total of six colors - Black, Red Mica Metallic, Freedom White, Blue Grey, Alumina Jade Metallic, and Blackish Red Mica. The Toyota Vios price starts at Php 659,000 for its base model and goes all the way up to Php 1.1 million.
