Volvo PH rolls out ES90, EX90 BEVs

MANILA: Volvo Philippines, under the stewardship of Hariphil Asia Resources Incorporated (HARI), has rolled out two new models: the ES90 Ultra and EX90 Ultra battery electric vehicles (BEV).

According to the local wing of the Swedish car brand, the said models represent its next generation of flagship vehicles, both of which are engineered with next-level advanced safety innovations, modernized digital features, and passenger comfort. 

“With the launch of the Volvo ES90 Ultra BEV and EX90 Ultra BEV, we are introducing not only Volvo’s next-generation electric vehicles in the Philippines, but also the principle of shaping a future that values safety and responsibility,” HARI Chief Executive Officer, Chairman, and Vice President Maria Fe Perez-Agudo was quoted as saying.

“These models reflect our commitment to delivering a driving experience that is not only technologically advanced but also instinctively crafted for comfort, confidence, and enduring value. Every detail, from the sophisticated design to the intuitive digital innovations, is engineered to elevate the journey, setting a new benchmark for refined electric mobility with the elegance of Scandinavian design for both discerning executives and modern families, for today and tomorrow,” she added.

Executive ‘electric’ sedan

The Volvo ES90 Ultra BEV is touted as an executive electric sedan that embodies Volvo’s Scandinavian design to emphasize a calm and purposeful elegance.

Outside, it boasts a clean exterior with a minimalist fascia comprised of the company’s emblem flanked by two T-shaped headlamps. Its side profile exudes grace with flush, body-colored handles, blacked-out pillars, and a set of two-tone wheels. At the back are C-shaped taillamps, the “VOLVO” script proudly sitting at the center of the boot, and a sleek rear bumper.

Inside are power-adjustable, ventilated, heated front seats with a massage function. These are complemented by rear reclinable and ventilated passenger seats delivering tailored comfort on every journey.

Further, natural light enters the cabin by way of its panoramic electrochromic roof, while noise is kept to a minimum thanks to good soundproofing.

Power comes from an 800-volt electric vehicle (EV) architecture with enhanced thermal efficiency and an estimated range of approximately 700 kilometers (km).

The Volvo ES90 Ultra BEV is the first Volvo sedan to use the said EV architecture, marking a
significant milestone in the Gothenburg-headquartered carmaker’s electrification journey.

A family experience

On the other hand, the Volvo EX90 Ultra BEV is more than just an EV counterpart of the CX90.

Paving its own path, the model has earned the nod of several organizations with honors such as the World Car Awards and World Luxury Car titles, as well as being named as one of TIME Magazine’s Best Inventions for 2024. 

Sharing similar design cues as its sedan stablemate, it offers a clean-looking front end with the Volvo badge and T-shaped illuminations at the fore. It also gets piano black bumpers and side garnishes with flush door handles, blacked-out pillars, and two-tone wheels. At the back is a large window topped by a roof-mounted spoiler, C-shaped lights connected by a black garnish, and a sporty-looking bumper.

Inside, comfort is a priority thanks to cinema-style seats, four-zone climate control, and PM2.5 air purification. Notable too are its abundant, adventure-ready storage, which makes life on the long road a delightful possibility.

Propulsion comes from a twin-motor all-wheel drivetrain paired with a 111 kilowatt-hour high-voltage battery that makes 456 horsepower and 770 Newton-meters.

Safety is paramount

Both the Volvo ES90 Ultra and EX90 Ultra BEVs uphold the reputation the brand is known for.

The former comes with an advanced sensor suite that monitors both driver behavior and the surrounding environment. It relies on seven cameras, five radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors to deliver comprehensive awareness of the road, obstacles, and other vehicles.

Safety technologies include lane keeping, adaptive cruise control, and navigation support.

Meanwhile, the latter is fitted with the Volvo Safe Space Technology, which is an advanced safety ecosystem that delivers collision avoidance, full-cabin occupant sensing, and comprehensive protection for drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and other road users.
