Household Recipes for Car Care

MANILA: Keeping our beloved ride looking new, and shining is every car lover's goal. Regardless of our extreme efforts, cars do have to bear the scorching heat, muddy roads and messy habits of passengers. And above that, the exorbitant cost of car servicing, makes it even more difficult for us to keep our car spick and span at all times. Hang on! We at CarBay have a cheaper solution to keep your car neat as a button and spotless like it's straight out of a showroom. Many of us do not realize that household items work like a charm. Rather than spending thousands on car cleaning products, if you just apply these simple tricks with easily available products, you can ensure your car is glowing like it's brand new.

clean

Liquid fabric softener:

Water stains on windscreens are hard to remove with just a plain wash. When water minerals like calcium and magnesium, comes in contact with the surface, they leave lime scales. These hard water stains not only make your car look unattractive but also pose a difficulty in driving. But with the use of liquid fabric softener, you can remove hard water stains without a hitch. All you need to do is, pour some fabric softener directly onto the stains and leave it for few minutes. Then wipe the softener using a wet cloth and dry the windscreen properly with a newspaper, and Voila! Your car's windscreen will be shining as new.

potato

Potato:

Rust has been one common problem around the world, even after proper care, rust affects our car and makes it look dull and unalluring. Not only it hampers it appearance but also decreases your car's life. But you can get rid of the rust in just minutes, by using a potato. Yes, potatoes contain oxalic acid which helps to remove rust without a hitch. Take a peeled potato and put salt on it, rub it vigorously on the rusted spot, rinse with clear water and see the rust gone in minutes. If you want to remove rust from the emblem, just keep the peeled potato with salt on the badging for 15 minutes then wipe with a wet towel and it will become just like new.

hair

Hairspray:

Premium upholstery costs us thousands and can be ruined with just one stain. And removing them is even pricey as professional servicing garages charge a bomb. But you can now remove stains from your luxe upholstery without drilling a hole in your pocket, by using hair spray. Hairspray helps to remove unwanted stains from your car's carpeting, seats and other fabrics. Just spray some solution directly on the stained area and allow it to sit on it for few minutes so that the fabric absorbs the spray. Use a brush to clean the spot, repeat the step if the stain is old or hard to remove.

nail

Nail polish remover:

Paint stains on your car's surface, windows and windscreens can be very hard to remove and can also make your car look tainted. To remove paint stains, nail polish remover comes in very handy. Just take the remover, dab it on the paint spot and let it rest for a while. Rub it off with a clean cloth. Note: Nail polish removers are of two types one with acetone and other with amyl acetate, always use the acetone one as amyl acetate degrades the upholstery.

vinegar

White vinegar:

Vinegar is one product, that you should always buy in large quantities, as it is a one-stop solution for all your stain and blemish issues. You can dilute it and mix it up with other ingredients or use it straight our of the bottle, vinegar works like a charm. For food stains on upholstery, use a solution of one tablespoon of white vinegar in 2/3 cup of rubbing alcohol, dab it directly on the stain and rub it with the brush. To remove smudges and sticker debris from the windows create a solution of 1/4 cup of white distilled vinegar along with two cups of water, and up to 1/2 teaspoon of dish washing soap. Add the ingredients in a spray bottle and you have a handy window cleaning liquid.
