Recent Updates of Honda Brio 2019

It was only recently when Honda Philippines teased the upcoming Brio on its Facebook page, and now a fresh batch of the car is being imported from Indonesia to the country. All this hints towards a soon launch of the all-new 2019 Brio in the Philippines. Once launch the car will be available in three variants - Standard with manual, Standard with CVT, and RS. According to company sources, the new Brio is manufactured at Honda Indonesia plant in Karwanf, West Java and the production started on 26th March 2019. Along with the Philippines, the new Brio will also be exported to Vietnam from Indonesia. Though much information is not revealed about the new Brio, we expect it to be powered by a 1.2-litre four-cylinder Euro 4 compliant SOHC i-VTEC engine that delivers 90 PS of power at 6000 rpm along with a peak torque of 110 Nm at 4800 rpm.

Overview

The Brio is the smallest and the most affordable Honda product that you can buy in the Philippines right now. Launched in 2014, the Brio quickly charmed everyone with its cute looks and spacious interior (for a hatchback). However, people slowly lost interest in this car as it became outdated and new cars from other brands became available. While Honda was a bit late to notice the faded charm of Brio, it eventually did take note and launched the all-new 2019 Brio in the country.

The new model is definitely a step up from the outgoing one as it looks better, offers more space on the inside, and houses a powerful engine. The 2019 Brio is available in 4 variants at an introductory price of Php 585,000 for the base model and Php 732,000 for the range-topping RS Black Top model.

Interior & Features

Just like the outside, things are new on the inside too. Honda has replaced a number of round elements like the AC vents with angular units to match the maturity of the exterior of the new Brio. And this theme does work pretty well. The overall black theme of the cabin is pretty sporty too. Honda has added a silver/orange lining to remove the monotony. the color of the lining depends on the model you choose.

The 3-spoke steering wheel comes with audio controls mounted on it. Behind the steering wheel is a simple and conventional instrument cluster. What’s new is the 7-inch touch screen infotainment system that supports Bluetooth and USB connectivity. However, this feature is limited to the higher end models. The base model, on the other hand, gets a single-DIN stereo system only. The new 2019 Honda Brio is a bit bigger than its predecessor which means that there is a bit more space on the inside and even the boot space has been slightly increased.

Exterior

The 2019 Honda Brio is clearly a major upgrade in terms of exterior design and styling when compared to the outgoing model. Honda has done a good job in making sure that the new car doesn’t go unnoticed in the Filipino streets. The front end gets a pair of large headlamps that are joined together by Honda’s signature thick chrome grille. This whole combination looks perfect on the Brio. In fact, it looks much better than the previous model.

The headlamps are multi-reflector halogen units and are accompanied by LED parking light guides. If you opt for the RS model, then the chrome grille is replaced by a black-out one and an RS badge also makes its way to the grille. The stock 14-inch alloys are upgraded to 15-inch RS design wheels and you can even have a black roof in the range-topping model, i.e., RS Black Top. Things just get sportier in the RS models, don’t they?

The rear end of the new 2019 Brio offers beautiful taillights and a sporty roof-mounted rear spoiler. The rear bumper is quite sporty too and does help in improving the looks of the car. To sum it up, the new Brio looks amazing.

Ride & Handling

The suspension setup on the new Brio comprises of MacPherson Strut with Stabilizer at the front and Torsion Beam at the rear. Combine this with 185 / 55 R15 size tyres and a curb weight of just 993 kg, and you get the new Brio that handles quite well. Of course, it isn’t meant to be driven over enthusiastically as it’s not built to provide you with any sort of thrills. Drive it gently and it’s not going to disappoint you at all. Also, because of its compact dimensions, driving it on crowded streets becomes easier.

Engine & Fuel Consumption

Honda has not just updated the exterior and interior of the new Brio but it has also updated the mechanical bits. The new model comes with a new 1.2-litre engine which replaces the old 1.3-litre unit. The new engine has been tuned to produce a max power of 90 PS at 6000 rpm and 110 Nm of peak torque at 4800 rpm.

All the variants of the new Brio come with this engine only. While the base model comes with a manual gearbox, the rest of the models are equipped with Honda’s Earth Dreams technology CVT unit. Performance wise, the new engine is supposedly more refined, smooth, and has been fine-tuned with the transmission to give an optimal balance of performance and fuel economy.

Braking & Safety

The new 2019 Honda Brio comes with disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The braking setup on the hatchback offers decent performance. The braking distance is further reduced thanks to the ABS that is available as standard across the model lineup. The light weight of the car further helps the brakes to bring it to a halt.

As far as the safety equipment is concerned, only the dual front airbags and ABS are the major features. We would have definitely liked Honda to have included more safety features.

Verdict

The new 2019 Honda Brio is certainly a better car than its predecessor. It looks good and offers more space along with a better interior. It is one of the best hatchbacks in the country that one can buy. Yes, there are a few areas which need improvement but it’s alright considering the price of the new car. The 2019 Brio starts at a price of Php 585,000 for the base model and to own the range-topping RS Black Top variant, you’ll need to shell out Php 732,000.

    Decent compact car

Honda Brio has been in the market for a long time now and is among the most budget friendly and economical hatchbacks in the market. The new model looks more aggressive, bigger and bolder than its predecessor. The front fascia of this car is something which I feel suits the overall personality of the car. Old is gold with the new Honda Brio

The new model of the Honda Brio is definitely bigger and better than its predecessor. It has a broad front grille which I feel looks pretty tacky but is loved by a lot of its customers. You get better space inside the new Brio but the interior is a bit dull as compared to other cars in its segment. The Read More

    My sleek cute possession

I am tired driving those retro large sized cars. So this time I decided to try out something different. A car which is easier to handle and similarly require less maintenance than those regal luxurious ones. Finally after doing loads of research I zeroed down to Honda Brio. Recently one of my cousins has bought this and gave me a Read More
