New year, new ride: GAC Aion UT

At the 13th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS), GAC (Guangzhou Automobile Corporation) Aion Philippines showcased the upcoming UT crossover. The aforementioned highlights the brand's intention to expand its electric vehicle (EV) footprint in the local market. 

With a new distributor, the said marque, after all, is looking to hit all the right notes in the local market. It likewise seems that the UT is a good follow-up to the larger Aion V and Hyptec HT EV models, which were formally launched at the 2025 PEVS. We even included it in our list of cars that we are excited to see this 2026.

GAC Aion UT: specs, features

Power-wise, the global version of the GAC Aion UT uses an electric motor paired with a 60-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery. At maximum, this setup can produce up to 201 horsepower and provide up to 500 kilometers of range, according to the New European Driving Cycle. 

For charging, the vehicle comes with a direct-current (DC) fast-charging port that is able to increase its state-of-charge from 30-80 percent in just 24 minutes. And like most EV nameplates in the market, the GAC-made EV was also fitted with regenerative braking and a vehicle-to-load feature. 

Inside the GAC Aion UT is a five-seater layout with around 400 liters of cargo room with the rear seats up. It also has leather upholstery, automatic climate controls, a 60:40 split-folding rear seat, and as much as 905 millimeters (mm) of legroom, according to GAC. 

Handling on-board entertainment and navigation for the upcoming EV crossover is a 14.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay. The driver, meanwhile, is provided with an 8.8-inch digital gauge cluster, as well as the following equipment: 

• Electronic parking brake
• Drive mode selector
• Leather steering wheel
• Front seat ventilation
• Voice control
• Padded front cabin armrest

Other noteworthy amenities present inside the GAC model include a panoramic sunroof, USB ports, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and a multi-layer storage system for its trunk. 

Safety-wise, the GAC Aion UT in the global market has dual front airbags, dual front side airbags, side curtain airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, an anti-theft system, a tire pressure monitor, and a 360-degree view camera. 

The said lineup of safety gear is supported by several advanced driver assist systems, which include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, emergency lane keep assist, blind spot detection, rear-cross traffic alert, and intelligent cruise assist. 

Final thoughts

As mentioned during its debut at the 13th PEVS, the GAC Aion UT will be entering the market “soon.” For now, no dates were confirmed. 

The Aion UT in Thailand, however, has been touted as the brand’s fastest-selling model. From this detail, we can surmise that it will be competitively priced (fingers crossed). It is, after all, facing plenty of competition from a bunch of other Chinese brands already in the market.
