2019 Honda HR-V is now turbocharged

MANILA: One after the other, Honda is packing its offering with turbocharged motors. It all started with the Honda Civic and now we have the HR-V housing a turbocharged mill for that little more oomph. However, the turbocharged Honda HR-V has only been offered to the European people.

The 1.5-litre turbocharged motor which produces 283 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 240 Nm (250 with CVT) is more powerful than the one on the Civic. The Honda HR-V, housing the turbocharged mill has on offer either a 6-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Honda is also claiming better cornering stability on the 2019 HR-V with the addition of the bespoke damper system.

The turbocharged model of the Honda HR-V has been named as the HR-V Sport. The turbocharged variant also features 18-inch alloy wheels, an intrusively designed bumper at the rear, ‘Solid Wing Face’ graphics, black roof lining, and red-black interior.

At present in the Philippines, we get the Honda HR-V with a 1.8-litre gas-fed 4-pot 16 valve SOHC i-VTEC motor. This engine makes a maximum power of 141 PS and 172 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties then are handled by a continuously variable transmission unit. However, the Honda HR-V available in the Philippines is well equipped with safety features like ABS, EBD, vehicle stability control, multiple airbags, hill start assist, brake assist, emergency stop signal, lane change assist, electric parking brake, parking sensors, seat belt pre-tensioners with force limiters, and ISOFIX mounts.

The European masses will be able to have the sporty, turbocharged Honda HR-V in their garages from 2019. The rest of the world, and us, however, have to do with the regular HR-V for now.
