5th-gen Mini Cooper unveiled

MANILA: Mini has unveiled the fifth-generation Mini Cooper C and Mini Cooper S, equipped with fuel-efficient gasoline engines.

The new models — according to the carmaker — stands for simplicity at its charismatic best. 

5th-gen Mini Cooper engine

Per the British marque, the Mini Cooper C is fitted with a 156 horsepower (hp) three-cylinder engine that delivers a maximum torque of 230 Newton-meters (Nm) to propel the vehicle from zero to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in just 7.7 seconds.

On the other hand, the sportier Mini Cooper S packs a 204hp four-cylinder mill with torque that peaks at 300Nm. It sends the vehicle from a standstill to 100kph in a matter of 6.7 seconds.

The fuel efficiency rating of the Mini Cooper C is 6.5 to 5.9 liters per 100 kilometers (km) while the Mini Cooper S consumes about 6.7 to 6.1 liters of fuel per 100km.

“The Mini Cooper is equipped with a suspension and damping system designed for agile handling. The precise typical Mini steering combined with powerful brakes ensures a high level of driving pleasure, safety and comfort,” the company wrote in a press release.

New exterior features

The exterior of the fifth-generation Mini Cooper also gets new exterior appointments in the form of a new octagonal grille with definitive filigree contours. It also dons the BMW Group’s smallest radar sensor to date, which is positioned on the horizontal strut between the air intakes.

Horizontal LED daytime running lights underline the new appearance in the standard setting. Available are three selectable light signatures for the daytime running lights as well as on the redesigned matrix rear lights.

Updated interior appointments

Inside, the fifth-gen Mini Cooper gets a new steering wheel. Also new is the placement of the Mini Interaction Unit, which has been moved closer to the driver in the Mini Cooper cockpit. A new Wireless Charging Shelf 2.0 has also been installed.

Drivers are treated to iconic Mini cabin amenities such as a round OLED Display, the typical MINI toggle bar, and a dashboard finished with a two-tone textile. Additional convenience features such as the panoramic glass roof and infotainment display adds to the driver’s experience.

The fifth-generation Mini Cooper is being offered in four variants, which are listed below:

• Essential
• Classic
• Favoured
• John Cooper Works

Per Mini, the new Mini Cooper C and Mini Cooper S can be had with different body paint finishes and interior trims depending on the variant.

“At Mini, ‘Power of Choice’ means that in addition to all-electric Mini models, we also offer models such as the new Mini Cooper with petrol engine. The car is ideal for all those people who want to drive a classic Mini 3-door and appreciate the traditional performance and characteristic sound of a combustion engine,” Head of Mini Stefanie Wurst stated.
