Agoda: Tagaytay, Subic, Clark among Filipinos' preferred travel destinations this year

MANILA: Digital travel platform Agoda revealed that there has been a shift in preference for road trip-friendly destinations near the National Capital Region (NCR) over the past year.

According to Agoda’s booking data, the preferred domestic travel destinations of Filipinos shifted toward the areas that be reached via land travel from major cities.

Manila and Cebu continued to be the top booked locations. Tagaytay has moved up to third place from its previous ninth ranking. As one of the closest escapes from Metro Manila, Tagaytay is known for its cozy weather, good food, and relaxing landscapes.

Agoda’s data also showed that many famous beach destinations have taken a back seat this year in terms of preference. Boracay was pushed to the sixth spot from its previous third ranking and Palawan is now at 14th from its previous fourth ranking. Surfing destinations like La Union and Siargao are also out of the top 20, while lesser known destinations such as Bataan, Dagupan, and Tarlac have become more popular as Filipinos now prefer short road trips.

Biñan, Bulacan, Antipolo, Cavite, and Pampanga were the destinations with the biggest jump in rankings. These destinations can easily provide a break from urban life since they can be reached with just a two- to three-hour drive. They have a wide offering of attractions, including the breathtaking Hinulugang Taktak falls in Antipolo, the Tibagan Falls in Biñan, the Mt. Pico de Loro in Cavite, the pristine Puning Hot Springs in Pampanga, and the historical Biak na Bato National Park in Bulacan.
