All-new Subaru WRX STI may pack in as many as 400 horses

MANILA: We all await the brand-new Subaru WRX STI big time, don't we? The performance-oriented Japanese sedan is said to take styling inspiration from the Subaru Viziv Performance Concept that was previewed back in 2017. With that in place, the new model should come vaunting some sensual and attractive lines along with a coupé-like body language.

Moreover, the newest iteration of the Subaru WRX STI is also expected to be underpinned by a Toyota platform as the two Japanese automakers have recently signed a deal that enables shared development of all-wheel-drive models, and this should also give a clear hint of the new WRX STI featuring an all-wheel-drive system.

Besides, the latest developments reveal that the all-new Subaru WRX STI may house a 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged boxer engine in a new avatar capable of generating as much as 400 hp of maximum power and a peak torque of 490 Nm. The very engine already offered on the likes of the Subaru Ascent, Outback, and Legacy where it serves the three offerings a maximum power of 260 hp and 376 Nm of peak torque. As for what kind of transmission will make it to the new Subaru WRX STI, it all remains a mystery for now.

The much powerful version of the 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged boxer engine with 400 hp & 490 Nm is said to rival the likes of the Mercedes-AMG's M139 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that pushes put 416 hp of maximum power and a peak torque of 500 Nm. The A45 and CLA 45 models by the German carmaker are the ones that feature this M139 motor in today's world.

While one might call the news of new Subaru WRX STI packing in 400 hp & 490 Nm thanks to a new version of the turbocharged boxer engine mere rumours, the news comes via Forbes, which is said have spoken with sources close to the Japanese automaker. And, that should lend some credibility to the speculations, right?
