Chevrolet Malibu: Features explained

Chevrolet Malibu: Features explained

Perhaps, one of the most underrated cars in the C-segment sedan category is the Chevrolet Malibu. We are not going to dive into a discussion of why is it so, we will be rather focusing on some of the key features of the Malibu which make it as worthy as any other car in its segment, if not more.

The sedan is available in a single variant - 2.0L 6AT LTZ and the Chevrolet Malibu price is set at Php 2.13 million, at which, it promises to provide you with some of the best-in-class features and a powerful engine. So, without any further ado, let’s get started.

On the outside

The Chevrolet Malibu is a smart-looking car. A lot of work has been done on the outside to make sure it stands right at the top amongst its rivals. The Malibu has a streamlined body which allows it to have a low drag coefficient. So, it moves faster in a stable and efficient manner.

At the front of the car, we have a pair of sleek yet elegant projector headlamps which impart an aggressive look to the car. Then there are the LED daytime running lights on either side of the front bumper. Talking more about the bumper, it features a large and well-shaped secondary grille.

Since the entire car is pretty low-slung, it looks extremely sporty. What else is sporty is the set of beautiful alloy wheels that take care of the side looks. Moving to the rear end of the car, we have a couple of two-piece combination LED tail lights which look good but appears a bit underwhelming when we bring the sleek headlights into the picture. As a whole, the Malibu is a fantastic-looking car.

On the inside

Instead of going with the usual all-black theme for a sporty feel, Chevrolet decided to put a lot of brown accents inside the cabin and trust us it looks very luxurious and premium. The seats are made up of perforated leather for utmost comfort. Also, the driver seat is 10-way power adjustable whereas the front passenger seat is 8-way power adjustable. Both the seats are ventilated with cooling and heating functionality.

For the entertainment, there is an eight-inch touch screen infotainment system with Chevrolet’s MyLink software. It supports Bluetooth and USB and even comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone integration. There is also an inductive wireless mobile charger which Chevrolet claims to be the first in the segment.

Chevrolet has also included a powerful 9-speaker premium sound system from Bose. So, you are well sorted when it comes to entertainment. Some other interior features include automatic climate control, sunroof, 12 V electric outlets at the front and rear, push to start/stop button, rear window defogger, remote engine start, memory function for the driver seat, side view mirrors, and much more.

Under the hood

The Malibu comes with a single engine option which is a 2.0-litre DOHC VVT turbo engine that produces 250 hp at 5,300 rpm and 353 Nm of torque from 2,000 to 5,000 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. These are some healthy figures for a C-segment sedan but people still underestimate it. Chevrolet did not want to complicate things by adding another engine option on the Chevrolet Malibu specs sheet.

Safety equipment

Malibu has a long list of safety features which we always appreciate. It has a number of SRS airbags (dual front, front seat side, rear seat side, and curtain), front and rear parking sensors with reversing camera, ABS, brake assist, hill start assist, front collision alert, following distance indicator,

front pedestrian detection, forward automatic braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, side blind zone alert, rear cross traffic alert, tyre pressure monitoring system, automatic park assist, adaptive cruise control, and StabiliTrak, which an Electronic stability control.

There are many other aspects of the Chevrolet Malibu that we can talk about but we leave those for you to explore. We’ve mentioned the key features of the car which should be sufficient to arouse an interest in you. The Malibu is available in 4 different colors - Summit White, Black Meet Kettle, Abalone White, and Son Of A Gun Gray Metallic.
