Dongfeng Nissan launches next-gen Teana for Chinese market

MANILA: Dongfeng Nissan, a joint venture between Dongfeng Motor Corporation and Nissan Motor Corporation Limited, has rolled out the next-generation China-spec Teana sedan at the 2025 Auto Guangzhou. 

If the name rings a bell, the Nissan Teana was once sold in the Philippine market, but was discontinued back in 2021. In China, however, the said nameplate continues to live on. And now, it received a full model change equipped with the latest automotive cockpit tech from Huawei, a slick exterior design, and a peppy turbocharged powertrain. 

Powertrain

Propelling the Dongfeng Nissan Teana is a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. Known as the VC-Turbo, it is equipped with a variable compression ratio and a peak output of 239 horsepower and 371 Newton-meters of torque. 

Exterior

Style-wise, the Dongfeng Nissan Teana wears an elegant, elongated sedan body style that squarely fits in the midsize sedan category. 

Up front, present are a pair of “Star Ring” LED strip that links together with the vehicle’s pair of sharp LED headlamp clusters. The aforementioned straddle a wide take on the Nissan V–shaped grille.

It also has a slightly muscular hood with the right amount of character lines, a chrome trim for its window line, and an LED light bar for its rear end.

Interior, safety

Inside the Dongfeng Nissan Teana is a minimalist cockpit equipped with leather upholstery and plenty of soft-touch surfaces. In fact, the brand says that 90 percent of its interior is covered in soft pads. 

Likewise present inside the model is an ambient lighting system with up to 256 color options, a high-precision voice control system, and a large 15.6-inch central display. 

Included in the said central infotainment display is the Huawei HarmonySpace 5.0, which is an operating system that makes the in-car touchscreen operate like a smartphone. No specifics were given for this system as of the moment, but the all-new Teana for the Chinese market is the first-ever internal combustion model to come standard with this system. 

Paired with its sizeable touchscreen headunit is a 17-piece Huawei Sound speaker set. The aforementioned goes together with the vehicle’s double-layer soundproof glass to create a “theater-like” experience even in the midst of traffic. 

For extra comfort, both front and rear seats get lumbar support, ventilation, and massage capability. The model was likewise fitted with an adjustable footrest. 

Dongfeng Nissan didn’t reveal in detail its safety kit, but the Teana comes with a “level-2 driver assistance system.”

Availability

It is clear to see that Dongfeng Nissan has yet to share a complete features and specs list for the all-new China-spec Teana. We can expect, however, that more details about this car will come to light once its selling period starts. 

So far, however, the vehicle shows that the sedan scene in China is very much alive - a stark contrast to the Philippine market, where crossovers are now selling like hotcakes. On that note, this version fo the Teana in China isn't likely to arrive in the local market anytime soon.
