Electric Maserati Grecale Folgore showcased at 2023 Shanghai Auto Show

MANILA: At The 2023 Shanghai Auto Show, where its doors opened for an electrifying new edition, Maserati presented the world with its most recent fully electric inventions. This was a historic moment as Maserati became the first Italian luxury brand to produce 100% electric vehicles.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are the electric performance statistics of the Maserati Grecale Folgore?

The new electric SUV from Maserati can produce up to 820Nm of torque, ensuring performance befitting the brand. It offers 410kW and a top speed of 220kph thanks to the 100% electric drive.
  • What is the sustainable material used in the Maserati Grecale Folgore interior?

Econyl, a new fiber with a distinctive aesthetic, nylon waste from the fashion and interior design industries, including fishing nets from the sea and aquaculture, fabric remnants from mills, and carpets destined for landfill, is recovered and converted into virgin quality nylon yarn.
  • Maserati decided that China would be the ideal location for the global premiere of the Maserati Grecale Folgore alongside the new Maserati GranTurismo because it is the birthplace of this fascinating and exciting revolution in mobility, for innovation as well as for forward-thinking and embedded interest in the luxury market. The GranTurismo Folgore, a powerful and classic coupé, has been made available in the Asian market for the first time with both a combustion engine and an electric powertrain.

The electric range on the Trident is called Folgore, and it stands for creativity, luxury, a practical beauty, and a vision that connects the past and the present in the name of Maserati's unrivaled design. The 2023 Shanghai Auto Show is the perfect venue for the brand and the Asian market to interact in order to discuss and advance the idea of "Italian luxury performance" at the start of a new age.

Electrification will play a key role in Maserati’s future strategy, with a commitment to producing electric versions of all its models by 2025 and full-electric vehicles alone by 2030.

Maserati CEO Davide Grasso commented: “It’s a defining moment for the Maserati brand. Today, we’re in China at the Shanghai Auto Show; we’re in Italy for the cosmopolitan Milano Design Week event; we’re all over the world celebrating the future: it’s a new beginning for the brand. We’re celebrating Folgore, the electrification plan that has become a reality and is ready to pave the way in this revolutionary era. I’m very excited to be here in Shanghai, which is not only an international exhibition but also a global platform for innovation and the ideal place to unveil the first electric models in the history of Maserati”.

    Maserati Grecale Folgore

The Grecale Folgore is the first entirely electric SUV in the history of Maserati. Customers who enjoy electrification but do not want to give up performance in authentic Maserati flair can have an "everyday exceptional" experience with it.

By doing so, it completes the Grecale family, which has the widest choice of internal combustion, hybrid, and all-electric engines ever. The Maserati BEV's distinctive name, Folgore, which ignites new energy, is given to the Grecale's 100% electric variant.
The Maserati Grecale embraces the ideas of innovation, versatility, luxury, and performance with the perfect blend of sportiness and grace. With the introduction of its Folgore version, it is now moving one step closer to the electrification of the future.

One year after the hybrid and gasoline variants, Grecale Folgore is introduced to the market. Its 105 kWh battery uses 400V technology and was totally created, developed, and manufactured in Italy. The new electric SUV from Maserati can produce up to 820Nm of torque, ensuring performance befitting the brand. It offers 410kW and a top speed of 220kph thanks to the 100% electric drive.

    Maserati Grecale Folgore Driving Modes

The Grecale Folgore has four alternative driving modes: Max Range, GT, Sport, and Offroad, which make the driving experience even more immediate and let the user customize the car to their preferences. On the forged black steering wheel with drilled leather and a blue engine start button, there is a drive mode selection that may be used to make adjustments. Additionally, all Folgore models include Air suspension.

By using energy-saving techniques, the car can reach its maximum range when in Max Range mode. When the battery is down to 16% and there are no nearby charging stations, it is recommended. It slows the response time of the accelerator pedal, throttles the top speed to 130 kph, and caps the temperature control's power.

The car's EV route is another energy-saving feature. It can incorporate any charging breaks and optimize the length of the trip's overall duration while being fully aware of the battery state and expected usage at any time. The greatest distance the Maserati Grecale Folgore can travel is shown on the map using dynamic range mapping, which is updated in real-time based on the battery's charge level and the driver's maneuvers.

    Maserati Grecale Folgore Exterior

The distinctive Rame Folgore color of Grecale Folgore makes it easy to identify. It was inspired by modern architecture, specifically the façade of the Guggenheim in Bilbao, where warm copper tones in the sections in the sun coexist with cooler shades of bluish gray in the sections in the shade. This exterior color is the result of extensive research into how paint interacts with light. Iridescent pigments are used to create these hues.

The Grecale Folgore maintains its "unique by design" front end thanks to a redesigned inverted grille that provides the cooling an electric car needs. The front fascia of the new Folgore was modeled after the Trofeo model. Outside, the model is identifiable and current due to its timeless appearance. Along with the modified rear diffuser, the aero-driven design is comprehensive to attain a competitive target drag coefficient (Cx).

Depending on the market, the Grecale Folgore's exterior is equipped with 19 to 21-inch aero wheels that were specifically created for maximum aerodynamics and were modeled by the Trident's shape. Gloss black inlays on a base that is slightly anodized silk black make up the distinctive Folgore grille.

    Maserati Grecale Folgore Interior

The dashboard's characteristic Folgore embossed pattern and the distinctive carbon copper 3D touch inside trim, highlighted by the ambiance lights, set the Grecale Folgore's interiors apart. The 14-way Econyl electric sports seats in black/tan offer heated/ventilated features in addition to the novel lasering process; the innovative regenerated yarn also distinguishes the headliner and carpet.

In order to create Econyl, a new fiber with a distinctive aesthetic, nylon waste from the fashion and interior design industries, including fishing nets from the sea and aquaculture, fabric remnants from mills, and carpets destined for landfill, is recovered and converted into virgin quality nylon yarn. The bodysuit's fabric is suggestive of this special material.

The Grecale Folgore uses technology to enhance the driving experience by assuring superior feelings and digital performance. Driver-specific digital interfaces are also used. The touchscreen is impeccably designed, with the 8.8-inch comfort display and the 12.3-inch center display both placed ergonomically to make it easy to access the functions.

In just a few seconds, wireless versions of Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Baidu CarLife combine the smartphone experience. Up to two phones can be connected by users. WeChat, the onboard Chinese software aboard the Grecale Folgore, is now accessible to China. The Grecale Folgore has been tailored for the MIA Maserati Intelligent Assistant, which gives the digital experience unmatched energy and graphical refinement.
