Ford brings Heritage edition of GT with Gulf Oil paint scheme

MANILA: The Ford GT is one of the most iconic sports cars in the present generation. But yet, the company has resorted to a special edition model to make it look more of a heritage over the standard one. The new special model is known as 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition.

The most interesting thing about this new edition is that it wears the iconic paint job from the history of racing, which is of Gulf Oil. Back in 1968, the original GT, with chassis number 1075, had the same livery and managed to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Moreover, the same chassis number managed to repeat its feat by winning it again in 1969, thereby becoming one of the very few to win 48 Hours of Le Mans.

This Gulf Oil livery of the 2019 Ford GT is a tribute to the racing heritage and flaunts the same orange and blue colours. The A-pillar is made of carbon fibre while the wheels are 20-inch forged aluminium units. The brake callipers are painted in orange too and the rear view mirrors have the silver scheme.

It is quite interesting to know that in the 2019 model of the Ford GT Heritage, there will be a #9 graphic on the doors and the hood. The reason why this number is significant is that it is the same number car that won the Le Mans in 1968. However, for the 2020 model, the number will be replaced with #6, which is the car number that won in the year 1969.

Getting inside the cabin of the 2019 Ford GT Heritage, there are exclusive changes made. The seats are covered in ebony Alcantara leather. The same is used on the pillars, steering, headliner and instrument panel as well. The embossment on the seats is also taken from the winning model of the 1968 car.

On the introduction of this Heritage edition of the Ford GT, Joe Hinrichs, who is the President of the Global Operations of the company, said that the Gulf Oil paint scheme is considered to be the most famous one in its field. Hence, this limited edition is designed to pay honour to the rich history.
