Here are the Ford Territory Hybrid’s strengths, weaknesses

Ford Philippines has taken its first steps into having an electrified vehicle offering with the introduction of the Territory Hybrid. Sure, many other brands have beaten it to the punch when it comes to hybrid-powered crossovers, but the all-new Ford model may prove attractive to a lot of buyers. 

For starters, it comes with a price ranging from P1.399 million-P1.599 million. It may not be the cheapest hybrid within its segment, but the suggested retail pricing for its two trims remains highly accessible.

Pros

Peppy powertrain

One clear strength of the Ford Territory Hybrid is its peppy but efficient powertrain. Although the Blue Oval’s local arm has not provided total output figures, its 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline mill alone can generate up to 148 horsepower (hp) and 230 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. It is then backed by an electric motor capable of putting out 215 hp and 315 Nm of torque. 

The said output figures place the Territory Hybrid as one of the more powerful nameplates in its segment. To put it into perspective, the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i has a total output of 214 hp and 325 Nm of torque. 

Other noteworthy mechanical components of the Ford Territory Hybrid include a front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link suspension system.

Stopping power is provided by front and rear discs, while power is managed by a drive mode selector and a two-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. The model also has a 1.83-kilowatt-hour (kWh) lithium-ion battery pack.

Another strong characteristic of the Territory Hybrid is its abundance of creature comforts and driving-related features. The result is a comfortable ride for both long travels and short day-to-day journeys. 

Specific to the driver of the electrified Ford nameplate is a 12-inch digital gauge cluster, a rotary-type gear selector, an electronic parking brake, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a push-to-start button, a tilt and telescopic multi-function steering wheel, a power-adjust driver’s seat, and a smart keyless entry. 

Comfort-oriented bits for everyone inside the Territory Hybrid are as follows:

For instance, the model has full LED lighting all around, with its headlamp clusters equipped with automatic and follow-me-home functionalities. Its puddle lamps may also come in handy, especially at night. 

Loading up on cargo is made easier thanks to a power tailgate. Also, the model comes standard with power-adjustable side mirrors with heating, rain-sensing wipers, roof rails, and a panoramic moonroof.

The aforementioned, of course, isn’t exclusive to the Ford model, but most drivers will prefer a tactile way to adjust temperature and fast speed while on the road. Having the aforementioned after all, will allow one to fiddle with the AC without having to take one's line of sight away from the road.

Final thoughts

Considering the sheer amount of creature comforts and technologies it can provide would-be adopters, the Ford Territory Hybrid can be considered a good value for the money. Plus, it has a peppy hybrid powertrain that promises fuel efficiency, while providing the ride with exemption from Universal Vehicle Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP), more commonly known as “coding.” 

People who like what they see in this hybrid crossover, however, should give it a good test drive first. Doing so, after all, will make for a better buying experience in the end.
