Geely Coolray leads 5-seater subcompact crossover sales in Q1

MANILA: Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP), the official local distributor of Geely vehicles in the Philippines, recently announced that the Geely Coolray has again reached the number-one spot in the five-seater subcompact crossover category from January to March 2021, with 744 units sold in the first quarter. 

Geely was able to maintain its position in ninth spot in total industry sales with 1,313 units sold during the first quarter of 2021.

This represents a 345% increase from the 295 units sold during the same period in 2020.

Of the 1,313 units that were sold during the first quarter, the top-selling model, Coolray, accounted for 57% of Geely’s sales. Meanwhile, the Geely Okavango accounted for 40%, with 521 units sold. 

Geely was able to record its highest monthly sales in March 2021, with 533 units sold. It also exceeded its highest monthly sales record of 520 units last December 2020. 

SGAP President and CEO Mikihisa Takayama said, “The numbers speak for themselves. We are happy that we continue to maintain and even surpass our own highest record. This is reflective of our collective effort to rise above pandemic challenges.”

Geely aims to sell around 9,500 units this year, a goal that has become more challenging due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases and the implementation of stringent quarantine protocols, especially for the National Capital Region (NCR), which impacted the overall business environment, specifically consumer confidence. 

Geely Philippines Sales and Marketing General Manager Froilan Dytianquin expressed, “We are still hoping that the situation gets better in the coming months for us to realize this business volume target.”
