High-performance Toyota Yaris revealed

MANILA: Last month, Toyota revealed its plan about two upcoming models. One was the 2018 Toyota Camry and the second was the high-performance Toyota Yaris. Fortunately, both these models are revealed now by the automaker. The high-performance Toyota Yaris is scheduled to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show while we have already seen 2018 Camry at the NAIAS 2017.

The upcoming hot hatch will be based on the three-door variant and will be capable of producing 210 hp maximum power. Not only a high-performance production model is on cards but, Toyota is also gearing up to return Yaris to the World Rally Championship this year. The said car will make its track debut next week at the Monte Carlo Rally.

Talking about the powertrain of this hot hatch, Toyota has not confirmed the engine it will be carrying. But, according to speculations, it might have a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. For the rallying, the car will be equipped with the 1.6-litre option. It is also expected that the production model of high-performance Toyota Yaris will have a front-wheel drive despite the four-wheel drive setup is on cards for the rallying.

The average acceleration from 0-100 kmph is between 6.5 sec and 7.0 sec for the particular segment. But, the extra power of Yaris might bring it close to 6.0 sec.

Along with the addition of high-performance Yaris, Toyota will also bring some significant changes in the entire Yaris line-up. The changes might include new front as well as rear styling, refreshed cabin and some technical upgrades. The changes are also expected on the comfort and riding front, which will make Yaris even more competitive in its respective segment.

The high-performance Toyota Yaris is likely to give a tough competition to the Ford Fiesta ST and it will be a more powerful offering in the hot hatch segment. We hope Toyota Philippines bring this model here as well. Let’s see what Toyota has in its stores for the Filipinos.
