Honda City: What makes it so good?
Nothing is more special than driving with your family to the nearest weekend getaway or making that one day priceless with a drive after a sumptuous dinner at your favourite restaurant with your better half. The moments like these become even more special and unforgettable if done on the right set of wheels.
Which car would make more it special than the Honda City? The City is the ideal companion for all your personal commute needs. It’s proportionate, agile, and driver-friendly for the city as well as the long routes. After being introduced in the late 90s, Honda City has become the first love for buyers in the country. Its versatile character, modern & sleek looks,
and intuitive cabin make it the preferred car for most of the buyers in the Philippines. With new iterations introduced regularly, people always get the opportunity to experience something new. So, what exactly does it come with to be regarded as a good family car? Let’s find out.
Striking looks
Based on the H design language, the Honda City resembles its elder sibling Civic. The new design gives it a wider and lower stance which’s good enough to make your jaw drop. In case it doesn’t, there are also the Honda’s wing face grille, sleek headlights, and pronounced character lines to impress you.
The sport faux honeycomb inserts on the rear bumper make it even more appealing to the onlookers. The exterior finish is so fine and high-quality that you won’t walk by without appreciating its beauty. With zero doubts, this Honda’s drive ticks all the boxes as far as design is concerned.
Cabin style and amenities
The cabin is as plush as you’d expect from the automaker with a reputation like Honda. The premium feel is there to please every bit of your mind and soul. The gunmetal panels and metallic accents add to the inside charm. Though the cabin comes with a dark theme, Honda has made it so attractive that you only end up praising it.
There is a driver-oriented dashboard with comforting feels. Aside from displaying the essential readouts, the instrument cluster shows an “Eco Ambient Light Meter” that helps the driver to attain the best possible fuel economy.
On the features front, there is a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system and navigation on the higher variants. The three-spoke multi-function steering wheel makes the drive stress-free. Seats, legroom, and storage - there is a lot to applaud about. The higher-end variants of the lineup also get an added advantage of cruise control which means driving the City away from the city is more fun than ever before.
Reliability under the hood
Another positive aspect of the sedan is its trusted 1.5-litre SOHC i-VTEC petrol engine. The Honda City specs say that this motor is capable of producing 119.6 PS and 145 Nm, the City performs brilliantly in the city as well as on the highways. While the low NVH levels make the drive pleasant on an open road,
the compact and adequately-defined proportions help in easy manoeuvring in the traffic-ridden streets. Honda’s Earth Dreams Technology CVT does all the talking, makes it extremely responsive to commands. The power delivery is smooth and you get the much-needed throttle in absolutely no time. Expect a fuel economy of around 14 kmpl in the city and around 19 kmpl while driving on highways.
Safety that’s more than basic
Giving the driver an added sense of safety is a host of standard safety features including dual SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and three-point seatbelts for all five occupants. The top-of-the-line variant gets advanced features like hill start assist, vehicle stability control, and side & curtain SRS airbags. Honda has certainly not left any stone unturned as far as safety is concerned. The fitted brakes do provide with an adequate bite, which is useful in wet and undesirable weather conditions.
Honda offers the City in five colors namely White Orchid Pearl, Modern Steel Metallic, Radiant Red Metallic, Golden Brown Metallic, and Lunar Silver. The Honda City price for the different variants available in the Philippines is:
- City 1.5 E MT: Php 828,000
- City 1.5 E CVT: Php 868,000
- City 1.5 VX Navi CVT: Php 976,000
