When was the first Honda “H mark” used?
The company adopted the first “H mark” in 1963.When will we start seeing the new emblem?
The new badge will be applied to gext-gen EVs sold 2027 onwards. The company’s symbol — known as the “H mark” — was first used in 1963 with some design updates over the years.
Something old, something new
According to Honda Motor Company Limited, the move to change its logo was spurred by the development of the next generation of electric vehicles (EV).
These automobiles, which include the Honda 0 Series, are being developed with the aim to “create new EVs from ‘zero’ by going back to the starting point of Honda as an automaker.”
Taking a quick look at the company’s history — per the literature on its website — the emblem it plans to use on its future EVs bears a striking similarity to the badge worn by the Honda N360 (1967), which was fondly called the “Enu-koro.”
Also known as the “Little Puppy,” its claim to fame was offering a spacious interior despite its small body. Honda Motor Company Limited noted that the key was “making the mechanisms small and the cabin space large.”
Honda Motor Company Limited said that it refreshed the “H mark” design to express its commitment to the transformation of the company as well as its corporate attitude of going beyond the origin of Honda and constantly pursuing new challenges and advancements.
“The new design expression, like two outstretched hands, represents the commitment of Honda to augment the possibilities of mobility and sincerely serve the needs of the customers of Honda automobile business,” it wrote.
The new “H mark” is scheduled to appear on next-generation EVs and next-generation hybrid-electric models starting with the vehicles to be introduced to the market in 2027 and beyond.
Relatedly, the same theme of honoring its past and getting excited about its future was palpable in the recently held Honda Fest 2025, where the local subsidiary of the Tokyo-headquartered manufacturer displayed the old Prelude and its latest, soon-to-be-launched iteration.

Second founding
Honda Motor Company Limited also explained that the new “H mark” represents a second founding of sorts for the brand.
The automaker cited the major transformation of the automobile industry due to electrification and the application of intelligent technologies, and the new logo signals the marque’s pursuit — with strong determination — to lead the way during this period of transformation.
It aims to offer new value that goes beyond customer expectations with cutting-edge technology and ideas without being bound by conventional ideas, practices, and ways of doing things.
As such, Honda Motor Company Limited is also setting the public’s expectations that the new “H mark” will be used not only for its automobile products but also on other customer touchpoints such as dealership locations, communication initiatives, and automobile motorsports activities.
