Honda CR-V celebrates 30th anniversary along with 15-M global cumulative sales

MANILA: The Honda CR-V is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. And while that aforementioned is already a huge milestone, Honda Cars Philippines Incorporated (HCPI) shared that the CR-V has likewise hit the 15 million global sales milestone as of August 2025. 

The CR-V, whose name originally stood for “comfortable runabout vehicle,” has been around since 1995. As with many Honda nameplates, its initial selling period started in Japan. Eventually, however, it rose to become a household name in over 150 countries - including the Philippines. 

Currently, the sixth-generation version is sold locally with the electrified RS e:hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). Even then, the earlier versions, such as the first-generation RD1 to RD3 models, as well as the second-generation RD4 to RD9, are still treated by enthusiasts and even by normal consumers as a desirable ride. 

As Honda itself explained, the aforementioned is attributed to the fact that the first CR-V was a pioneer in the realm of sport utility vehicles when it came to providing a “passenger car-like maneuverability with a spacious interior.”

Previous generations that have also hit global sales milestones include the fourth generation version, with five million units, and the fifth generation, with 10 million units. Interestingly, the fifth generation was the first CR-V version to have received a hybrid powertrain system. It was known as the “Sport Hybrid i-MMD, and it was released in Japan back in 2018.

Honda CR-V in PH

At the moment, the latest locally available version of the Honda CR-V has a price ranging from P2.1 million-P2.605 million. 

The top-spec variant is the RS e:HEV, which is propelled by a 1.5-liter gasoline inline-4 engine and a traction motor. At maximum, its internal combustion component can put out 146 horsepower (hp) and 183 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. Its electric motor, meanwhile, is capable of producing up to 181 hp and 335 Nm of torque.

Being a closed-loop hybrid system, the Honda CR-V RS e:HEV can automatically switch between engine drive mode and electric vehicle (EV) mode. It also has hybrid mode, wherein the four-banger acts as a generator for the vehicle’s traction motor. 

To note, the Honda CR-V RS e:HEV is a five-seater model. Only the mid-spec VX Turbo and the entry-level V Turbo come with a three-row seating arrangement. Nevertheless, all trims come standard with the following: 

• Honda Sensing (advanced driver assist systems)
• Power-adjustable driver’s seat
• Auto-dimming rearview mirror
• Nine-inch infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster
