'Updated' Mitsubishi Montero Sport expected to be introduced 'soon'

MANILA: As reported earlier, the all-new Mitsubishi Destinator might be offered alongside the Montero Sport in the Philippines.

Zigwheels Philippines looks at this as a strong possibility after the Land Transportation Office (LTO) recently released documentations namely Memorandum Circulars VDM-2025-4683, 4684, 4685, and 4686 — all pertaining to the possible trims of the nameplate’s possible newest version.

Should the speculation be correct, then we could expect that the forthcoming version will be the same spruced-up version that was unveiled in Thailand since the first quarter of the year.

 To recall, the current version has been around locally since 2016.

Based on the LTO documents, the 2026 Mitsubishi Montero Sport measures:

Under the 2026 Mitsubishi Montero Sport’s hood is a four-cylinder, 2.4-liter diesel engine (likely turbocharged) that allows it to go as fast as 180 kilometers per hour.

MMPC will probably drop the six-speed manual transmission that was made available in the current-generation model as based on the LTO papers, the incoming offering will come in four trims namely:

• GLX 2.4D 2WD AT
• GLS 2.4D 2WD AT
• Black Series 2.4D 2WD AT
• Black Series GLX 2.4D 4WD AT

In the Land of Smiles, the powertrain of the model — called the Pajero Sport — can dish out:

Among the amenities that can be found in the nameplate’s Thai-retailed counterpart are the power-adjustable lumbar support for the driver’s seat and a 12.1-inch ceiling-mounted second-row display.

• Seven airbags
• Eight-inch digital gauge cluster
• Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
