Mitsubishi updates Thai-spec Montero Sport
Should MMPC spruce up the entry-level PH-spec variant as well?

MANILA: Mitsubishi has updated the Montero Sport in Thailand. Specifically, it received a new entry-level trim, which carries over plenty of features and safety bits that were previously exclusive on higher-spec variants.

The Philippine-spec Mitsubishi Montero Sport’s price ranges from P1.568 million-P2.502 million.In the Land of Smiles, the new trim is called the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Prime. As mentioned above, it boasts safety components from the higher-spec variants of the Mitsubishi sports utility vehicle, such as the following:
- Blind spot warning
- Lane change assist
- Seven airbags
- Eight-inch digital gauge cluster
- Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Moreover, the brand provided the new variant with power-adjustable lumbar support for the driver’s seat and a 12.1-inch ceiling-mounted second-row display.
Similar to the Philippine-spec model, all versions of the Thai-spec Mitsubishi SUV still use the same 2.4-liter turbodiesel mill. It can either come with a four-wheel-drive or rear-wheel-drive layout, and it can produce up to 181 horsepower and 430 Newton-meters of torque.
Additionally, the Japanese marque has trimmed down the model’s variant lineup from four down to just three. Per the car maker’s Thailand-based arm, the new trim was created due to customer feedback, and it is positioned to meet the needs of a variety of would-be adopters.

Price-wise, the Pajero Sport Prime is set at THB 1.389 million (around P2.351 million).
“We value our customers’ voice, and make it a priority to adapt to all their needs and requirements. The new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Prime is the entry grade of our popular PPV, equipped with more comprehensive features to meet the needs of new generation of customers,” Mitsubishi Motors Thailand President and Chief Executive Officer Ryoichi Inaba said.
Currently, the local version of the Mitsubishi Montero Sport still has four in its variant lineup. The Philippine-spec entry-level variant is the GLX, and it is an affordable ride with analog gauges, no ADAS suite, a six-speed manual transmission, and no Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Will the Philippine market receive an improved version of the Montero Sport GLX as well? For now, Mitsubishi Motor Philippines Corporation has yet to indicate if it plans on revamping its mid-size SUV’s variant lineup, so let’s wait for more updates.
