KEY TAKEAWAYS
What is the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV concept car called?
Per Mitsubishi, the concept car is called Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Night Seeker Concept. What powers the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Night Seeker Concept?
According to the link via the QR code on the actual display, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Night Seeker Concept is powered by a 4B12 MIVEC engine with an electric motor.Dubbed Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Night Seeker Concept, the design of the midsize sport utility vehicle (SUV) seems to have been influenced by either Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty or Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

In Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, the Gurlukovich Mercenaries use ballistic shields that are made of transparent plastic, which is what could have been the inspiration for the cover protecting the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV’s fascia.
On the other hand, Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots wore a variety of camouflage suits. That said, the black and gray paintwork used on the concept SUV could have been drawn from the OctaCamo used by the protagonist in the game.
It also wore plenty of claddings that give it a strong yet sleek look — much like the sneaking suit Solid Snake, Venom Snake, Big Boss, and Raiden donned.
These appointments (upon checking a QR code placed beside the displayed concept unit) are part of the Trail Package which includes a dedicated front skid plate, the aforementioned front shield, fender protectors, door claddings (with “ANTI CHIPPING PROTECTOR” script), geometrically designed wheel protectors, and a roof box (mounted on roof rails with “MISSION PACK MOUNT” script).
The link from the QR code also noted that the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Night Seeker Concept uses 18-inch wheels with 265/60 Toyo Open Country tires.
Spotted on the D-pillars of the concept SUV is a “FOX” (or “XOF”) emblem. The display was also presented with a cardboard box, an item the Snakes used in the games.

Under the hood, Mitsubishi said that the Outlander PHEV Night Seeker Concept packs a 4B12 MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control system) engine that puts out 131 horsepower with 195 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque.
The internal combustion engine is accompanied by an electric motor that dishes out some 53 horses and 255 Nm.
“Based on the Outlander PHEV with its outstanding road handling and functionality as an SUV, this custom concept car features a design inspired by the hit video game series Metal Gear Solid (by Konami Digital Entertainment Company Limited). With a striking harmony between Mitsubishi Motors’ commitment to create cars that reach the destination without fail even on the harshest of roads, and the realistic stealth action of the Metal Gear Solid game series, this car is designed to captivate all generations of users who crave authenticity,” the company wrote in a press release.
Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation discontinues Outlander PHEV?
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has been in the Japanese carmaker’s Philippine subsidiary’s stable for some time now. However, upon checking the brand’s website, it appears that it silently pulled out the hybrid midsize SUV.
Clicking on the link that is supposed to lead to the listing now gives the message “Sorry. Something went wrong.”

Looking at Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation’s current roster, the lineup now consists of the XForce, Mirage, Mirage G4, Xpander, Xpander Cross, Montero Sport, Triton, and L300.
What electrified model will replace the marque’s eco-friendly entry in the country is not yet announced. But Zigwheels Philippines’ guess is that it could be the hybrid version of the Xpander multi-purpose vehicle, which we have covered in our story “Here are the crossovers, MPVs we want to see in PH this 2025.”
Other Mitsubishi vehicles at Tokyo Auto Salon 2025
In addition to the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Night Seeker Concept, the Minato City-headquartered car company displayed various prototypes at Tokyo Auto Salon 2025.

These include the Delica D:5 Black Edition Active Seeker with graphics “designed to resemble the topography of Tokachi, Hokkaido, where Mitsubishi Motors’ proving ground is located.”

Also in attendance was the Mitsubishi Triton equipped with a DJ booth. It was created in partnership with Red Bull Japan to provide a sound center for the dance events and other activities the car company hosts.

In addition, a customized Mitsubishi Triton designed by Hiromi (a talent who is the brand ambassador for the Triton) was displayed in the brand’s auto show pavilion.
