Mitsubishi to field 3 race-prepped Tritons at 2026 AXCR

MANILA: Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is set to field a total of three Triton pickup trucks at the upcoming 2026 Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR), which is set to kick off this August in Thailand. 

Racing under the Team Mitsubishi Ralliart banner, the three Tritons are set to compete in the AXCR’s T1 class, which is for modified cross-country vehicles. Also, the brand said its team will enter three different units in the race to achieve back-to-back victories. 

Regarding their specs, the trio of Team Mitsubishi Ralliart Triton race vehicles is said to have received “enhanced power and durability.” 

The company didn’t disclose exact specs, but it is clear from published pictures that all three sport aftermarket off-road-spec wheels and tires, protective exterior parts, and a very aggressive suspension setup with significantly increased travel and ground clearance. These go on top of a variety of safety gear. 

Furthermore, Mitsubishi says that the Triton race trucks have undergone additional development time to make them competitive in the gruelling, three-day, 2,000-kilometer race. 

Notably, Team Mitsubishi Ralliart is owned and operated by Tant Sport, a Thailand-based company. Leading the team is veteran racer and Mitsubishi Motors Senior Expert in Public Relations, Hiroshi Masuoka. 

Here are the drivers who will pilot the three Team Mitsubishi Ralliart Triton vehicles at the upcoming 2026 AXCR:

• Chayapon Yotha (main driver) and Peerapong Sombutwong (co-driver). The pair have previously claimed overall victory at the AXCR in 2022 and 2025. 
• Katsuhiko Taguchi (main driver) and Takahiro Yasui (co-driver)
• Kazuto Koide (main driver) and Eiji Chiba (co-driver)

Mitsubishi Triton in PH

In the Philippine market, the Mitsubishi Triton comes with a sticker price ranging from P1.43 million-P2.359 million. 

Topping the model’s variant lineup is the Triton Athlete 4x4 AT, powered by a 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine that produces up to 201 horsepower and 470 Newton-meters of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. 

Reinforcing the model’s off-road capability is the Mitsubishi Super Select 4WD-II system, a total of seven drive and terrain models, as well as a rear locking differential. 

For comfort, the Mitsubishi-made pickup truck comes standard with dual-zone automatic air-conditioning, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and leather upholstery. 

Other noteworthy amenities available to the top-spec Triton Athlete 4x4 AT include, but are not limited to: 

• Seven-inch digital gauge cluster
• Leather multi-function steering wheel
• Nanoe X air purification system
• Wireless smartphone charging pad
• Nine-inch infotainment touchscreen 
• Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• Six-piece speaker set
• Advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS)
