Honda to cease car sales ops in South Korea by end of 2026

MANILA: Honda announces that it will cease its automobile sales operations in the South Korean market by the end of 2026. 

Honda Korea Corporation Limited, the brand’s arm for the said region, has operated its car sales division since 2004. It is led by its President, Jihong Lee, with its headquarters located in Seoul, and it employs 84 associates as of April 2026. 

The decision to halt its car sales activities in South Korea comes amid Honda’s recent difficulties in the global market, with the marque previously seeing a massive drop in profit for the fiscal year 2026 (April 2025-March 2026). 

Steps to address the issue are already being implemented as of April 1, 2026, and include organizational and operational adjustments across Honda’s automatic, motorcycle, and power products.

On the one hand, it isn’t total doom and gloom for Honda in South Korea. In fact, the Japanese brand will maintain a presence in the said country for vehicle aftersales services activities consisting of vehicle servicing and maintenance, warranty support, and parts supply. 

Furthermore, Honda will continue to sell motorcycles in South Korea - the core of Honda Korea Corporation Limited, which has been offering two-wheelers since 2002. In this regard, the marque will further strengthen its business by “continuing to offer compelling products and further enhancing services and experiences for its customers.”

Honda: other updates

While Honda is experiencing a decline in other regions, Honda Cars Philippines Incorporated (HCPI) defied global trends by climbing to the fifth spot in the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Incorporated (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA)’s March 2026 sales report. 

Per the said report, HCPI has sold a total of 3,968 units from January-March 2026, thus edging out Ford Philippines, which itself saw 3,761 unit sales within the same period. 

Moreover, HCPI is riding high with the recent local launch of the all-new Honda Prelude - a sporty two-door hybrid coupe that retails at P3.498 million as of its introduction to the Philippines.
