Hyundai to open world’s first car-powered hotel this October

MANILA: Hotel Hyundai is now open for bookings. It offers guests the most unique experience of the year by letting them stay in the first ever car-powered hotel.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Where is Hotel Hyundai located?

Hotel Hyundai is located in Essex, around an hour from central London.
  • When will Hotel Hyundai be open?

Hotel Hyundai will be open from October 19 to November 5, 2022.
  • Following a research commissioned by Hyundai of 2,000 vacationers in the UK, which indicated that over half of people (55%)  claimed the cost-of-living crisis caused them to rethink their future vacation plans, Hyundai and broadcaster Grace Dent presented the new concept. Almost half of the respondents (44%) said that they would like to have more staycations in 2023 than 2022.

Almost a third (31%) of the respondents felt staycations are preferable for short getaways, with three in 10 (30%) appreciating everything the UK countryside has to offer.

More than half (53%) said that they would allocate their holiday spend in the UK rather than abroad.

Sustainability, supporting local small businesses, and a hassle-free travel experience were the three factors that led Brits to this decision.

All of the amenities expected from a luxurious countryside getaway are available at Hotel Hyundai, but for a really exceptional off-grid experience. All power is provided by electric vehicles.

Located in Essex, around an hour from central London, the facility offers guests with a local menu composed of sustainable products sourced within Essex, as well as immersive experiences that make the concept genuinely remarkable.

The guest suite is a luxury cabin by Colemans Farm. Everything a guest can expect from a luxury boutique hotel is available in the room. The Ioniq 5 and its Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology powers everything, including the lights, charging points, kettle, and shower.

The bar and restaurant’s menu and mixology were curated by Dent, offering a food and beverage selection as innovative and sustainable as the vehicles powering it. The bar and restaurant comes with an Ioniq 5 coffee lounge with expertly crafted espresso powered by the electric vehicle, in addition to indoor-outdoor dining and cooking over fire.

“We’re looking for unique, memorable stays more now than ever and this is a delicious blend of innovation, luxury and comfort that gets you thinking,” Dent stated. “I’m excited for those staying with us to sample the sustainable, locally sourced menu as well as the equally fabulous cocktails, and of course to enjoy a good night’s sleep. I hope this three-week pop-up hotel is just the start for this concept of a car plugging in and powering a luxury experience like this. I’m predicting that guests will be hoping that his amazing hotel and the full experience it offers might be here again in 2023.”

Guests are also invited to watch movies from a car-powered projector and speakers, together with a V2L-powered popcorn machine.

“Our award-winning Ioniq 5 is able to power Hotel Hyundai using its V2L feature, where an adapter from the car provides a socket which domestic appliances can be plugged into. The whole experience demonstrates the practicality of this pioneering technology, and we hope the concept inspires more people to go off grid,” Hyundai Motor UK Managing Director Ashley Andrew said.

The Ioniq 5’s V2L feature, which provides AC power up to a maximum of 3.6kW power consumption, powers the hotel and its amenities. Standard home appliances can be plugged into a socket provided by an adapter from the car.

The Ioniq 5 is the first model in Hyundai’s Ioniq brand. It is engineered with the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which is Hyundai Motor Group’s specialized architecture for BEVs. The vehicle features a long wheelbase, eco-friendly interior features, modern driver assistance and safety features, and a powerful performance with ultra-fast charging and a V2L function.

Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc. unveiled the Hyundai Ioniq 5 at the Philippine International Motor Show 2022 held on September 15 to 18 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. It will hit the local market in January 2023.

Hyundai is giving the public a chance to win a stay at the unique hotel and enjoy the full experience, which includes welcome cocktails, a three-course meal, an evening film, and a breakfast buffet.

Hotel Hyundai will be open from October 19 to November 5, 2022.
