In 8 pictures: Dongfeng PH launches all-new Vigo EV

MANILA: Dongfeng Philippines, under the distributorship of Legado Motors Incorporated, has officially launched the Vigo all-electric compact crossover. 

The aforementioned model is significant to the brand’s local arm as it enters a highly competitive segment. On this note, the Dongfeng Vigo is said to be able to face its well-established rivals via a good combination of “affordability, intelligence, and range.”

So, what is the all-new Dongfeng Vigo offering to would-be adopters?

Powertrain

Propelling the all-new Dongfeng Vigo is a permanent magnet synchronous motor paired with a lithium iron phosphate 51.87-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery. At maximum, the powertrain produces up to 160 horsepower and 230 Newton-meters of torque. 

Power is sent to the model's front wheels, and it also has a range of 471 kilometers, according to the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). Topping up the Vigo is done through a Type 2 alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC) port. When using its DC fast charging, the Vigo can increase its battery levels from 30-80 percent in just 18 minutes. 

As with most electric vehicle (EV) models in the market right now, the Dongfeng Vigo comes with a regenerative braking system, a vehicle-to-load function, and a drive mode selector (economy, comfort, sport).

Exterior

Design-wise, the all-new Dongfeng Vigo goes for a sport utility vehicle (SUV)-like appearance. It has a flat front fascia with a closed-off grille, plenty of black plastic cladding on the side, as well as a dual door tailgate. 

Other notable exterior features of the Vigo include automatic headlamp functionality, power-folding/adjustable side mirrors, flush door handles, and a set of 18-inch alloy wheels.

Interior

Inside the Dongfeng Vigo is a five-seater layout equipped with leather upholstery, an automatic climate control system with rear vents, split-folding rear seats, power-adjustable front seats, and an ambient lighting system. 

For the driver, the all-new EV provides the following amenities:

• 8.88-inch digital gauge cluster
• Electronic parking brake with auto hold
• Leather multi-function steering wheel
• Smart key
• Front cabin armrest

The vehicle’s main screen, meanwhile, is a 12.8-inch high-definition touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity, and voice recognition. The screen is connected to a six-piece speaker set and also has USB ports and a wireless smartphone charging pad. 

Safety

For its basic safety kit, the Dongfeng Vigo comes equipped with six airbags, traction control, hill-start assist, electronic stability control, anti-lock braking, a 360-degree view camera, front and rear parking sensors, ISOFIX, and tire pressure monitoring - among others. 

Its basic kit is likewise supported by a number of advanced driver-assist systems, which include:

• Forward collision warning
• Adaptive cruise control
• Traffic sign recognition
• Intelligent speed assist
• Lane departure warning
• Lane keep assist
• Lane centering assist
• Highway assist 
• Intelligent high beam control

Price

The all-new Dongfeng Vigo retails at P1.458 million. Available color options include Orange and Silver. 

Included with each purchase of the Vigo is a five-year or 150,000-kilometer, whichever comes first, bumper-to-bumper warranty. This goes together with an eight-year or 170,000-kilometer battery warranty, whichever comes first.
