Jaecoo J5 EV now in PH

MANILA: Omoda and Jaecoo Philippines officially launched the all-new J5 electric vehicle (EV) for the local market. 

Positioned as a capable crossover that can meet the needs of various lifestyles, it is the all-electric version of the J5 SHS-H (hybrid). The newly launched model also joins the local Omoda and Jaecoo EV lineup, which also consists of the Omoda E5 and the Jaecoo EJ6. 

So, what is the all-new Jaecoo J5 EV offering to prospective adopters?

Vehicle Specifications

For its powertrain, the Jaecoo J5 EV uses a single permanent magnet synchronous motor connected to a 58.9-kilowatt-hour (kWh) lithium iron phosphate battery. With these, the J5 EV is capable of producing up to 207 horsepower and 288 Newton-meters of torque. It also has a range of 461 kilometers (km), as indicated by the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). 

With those output figures, Jaecoo says that the J5 EV can sprint from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in 7.7 seconds. 

When it comes to charging, the Jaecoo J5 EV is equipped with an alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) port. With its fast DC charging port, the model can top up its battery from 30-80 percent in just 28 minutes. 

Other EV-related components of the Jaecoo J5 EV include a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system and a regenerative braking system. 

The Jaecoo J5 EV is a front-wheel-drive nameplate with a MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension. It also has front and rear disc brakes. 

Appearance-wise, the Jaecoo J5 EV employs a sleeker take on an upright sport utility vehicle-like design that we’ve already seen on the J5 SHS-H. It does, however, get a more closed-off front fascia with an active grille shutter. 

Further enhancing the model’s aerodynamic profile are a set of specially designed 18-inch wheels. Its exterior also gets a full complement of LED lighting fixtures, a power tailgate, a panoramic sunroof, roof rails, and automatic headlamp functionality.

Inside the Jaecoo J5 EV is a five-seater layout equipped with leather upholstery, automatic air-conditioning, and an ambient lighting system. The driver, meanwhile, has access to a fully digital gauge cluster, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, an electronic parking brake, a drive mode selector, and an anti-glare rear-view mirror. 

Handling on-board entertainment and navigation for the Jaecoo J5 EV is a 13.2-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The said screen is connected to an eight-piece Sony speaker set, while device charging is done via a wireless pad or USB ports. 

Safety-wise, the Jaecoo J5 EV’s primary kit is its wide array of advanced driver-assist systems, which include: 

• Adaptive cruise control
• Integrated cruise assist
• Forward collision warning and alert
• Rear cross-traffic braking and alert
• Traffic jam assist
• Emergency lane keeping
• Active speed limiter
• Multi-collision braking
• 540-degree around view monitor
• Rear collision warning
• Intelligent evasion system
• Blind-spot detection

As of its official launch, the Jaecoo J5 EV’s sole available variant is the Max, which is offered with a price of P1.399 million. 

Included with the vehicle’s purchase is a seven-year or 200,000-km bumper-to-bumper warranty and an eight-year or 160,000-km battery and electric motor warranty.
