Jeep all-set to unveil the Wrangler PHEV at CES 2020

MANILA: Jeep has clearly stated that the American automaker aims at electrifying its lineup by 2022 and offer each of the models with an electric powertrain. With that said, one of the most popular 4x4s across the planet, the Jeep Wrangler will, at last, come out in the flesh with an electrified powertrain under its hood at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) from 7th of January to 10th of January 2020 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The electrified Jeep Wrangler will be a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and boast the brand's "4xe" badge. While the specs-sheet will only be revealed once the electrified Wrangler takes centre stage at the highly-anticipated event, the 4x4 is expected to carry a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four alongside an electric motor. Since it is going to be a PHEV, the new Wrangler will not only flaunt an improved fuel efficiency but also do less harm to the environment thanks to the low emissions.

Moreover, the 4x4 should also be capable of doing a few kilometres on the electric power alone. Although Jeep has already displayed the Renegade and Compass in their PHEV guise at the 2019 Geneva International Auto Show, the two electrified Jeeps will be up for viewing at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Both the Jeep Renegade and Compass PHEVs house a 1.3-litre turbocharged engine that works in tandem with an electric motor. The electrified powertrain produces 190 PS or 240 PS of maximum power. While the Renegade PHEV can be had with either of the power figures, the Compass will only be offered with 240 PS.

Speaking of the top speed, the two PHEVs can go up to 128 kmph on electric power alone. The electric-only range is 50 km on both of the Jeep Renegade and Compass PHEV models.
