LTO Philippines Issues Strict Regulations For Vintage Cars

MANILA: Just a couple of days before we heard the news about the Land Transportation Office Philippines releasing new license stickers for 2016. This news was accompanied with a sigh of relief from the car owners in the country who have been without the updated license plates for almost an year. However satisfying this news may sound, but their newest regulations related to vintage vehicles will certainly stir up a lot of ruckus among Philippines buyers. According to the latest update LTO has announced all car models manufactured prior to 1975, to be registered in their database and can only be driven during a weekend or on a holiday.

Published as LTO’s official Administrative Order RPC-2016-033, the new regulations certainly sounds like a serious nut punch to the vintage car lovers in the country. Nevertheless, the orderlies have also announced that the vehicles that fall under the category of Vintage cars will be issued with new license plates that will clearly include the vehicle’s year model inscribed at the bottom. On top of it, these cars will be able to participate in various exhibitions, parades, fan club activities that have been organised in accordance with government regulations. The orders for registration is also applicable for vintage models that have been used only for display or storage purposes.

Several fans have attributed LTO Philippines’ order to be of ‘Nazi-esque’ nature, as their favorite vintage cars will be branded and asked to limit public interaction (let’s hope we don’t get to see any car ghettos in the future). The order will take upto 15 days to be enforced with full effect and will be applicable by the 17th of April. Their current decision has also raised a lot of questions from car owners who had applied for license plates last year and haven’t yet received them or any refund. Looks like Land Transportation Office Philippines need to fix the holes in their boat before they do any rescue missions in the country.
