LTO Berated Over Stickers: 2016 Registration Stickers Finally Released
MANILA: After spending an entire year without the registration stickers for which the motorists have paid at the time of registering or renewing registration, they have finally received new registration stickers from the LTO. However, the long-delayed number plates which require PhP 450 on top of registration are still not expected anytime soon.
An annual processing of vehicle registration for 2016 has started in January this year followed by the strong retaliation from the public when the LTO failed to deliver the stickers to motorists even after billing them for PhP 50 each. Few lawmaker had even accused the LTO of “robbery” since the organization billed money for something they were not capable of delivering. Few motorists even lodged the complaint stating that they have been paying the fees for the last five years but didn't get any stickers.
Now even after releasing the new stickers, the Land Transportation office has kept its mouth shut on the raised issue of what would happen to the money they collected for the non-delivered stickers in 2015. The public is demanding for a refund, however, the organisation has clearly stated that they don't have the refund policy. The new 2016 stickers are somewhat different from the previous ones as they are now smaller and are positioned vertically.
On top of the delayed registration sticker issue, the LTO has also charged PhP 450 and PhP 120 for four-wheelers and two-wheelers' new standardized vehicle plate in 2015. Just like the stickers, the LTO failed in delivering this product as well.
However, the LTO is sure that the motorists will get the new standardized license plate by next month. Let's hope this won't be an empty promise by the LTO as when the whole country is celebrating the biggest auto show, MIAS 2016, we don't want Filipinos motorists to get disheartened.
