Mercedes-AMG, IWC release G-Class-inspired timepiece

MANILA: Mercedes-AMG and IWC Schaffhausen created a timepiece inspired by the recently launched G 63 “Grand Edition.”

The Big Pilot’s Watch AMG G 63 is defined by the contrast between black and gold. The case and crown of this exquisite timepiece are made of 18-carat Armor Gold. The case is much harder and more wear-resistant when made from this innovative material since it has an enhanced microstructure compared to red gold used in traditional jewelry.

A combination of polished edges and sandblasted surfaces gives the timepiece a high-end, modern appearance. The front grilles and air intakes of Mercedes-AMG performance cars served as inspiration for the relief-effect texture that distinguishes the black dial from other watches.

The AMG G 63 edition also has three-dimensional embellishments instead of the printed numerals and indexes found on the standard Big Pilot's Watch. These are plated in black using physical vapor deposition (PVD) and wrapped with beige luminous material. The small seconds sub-dial at nine o'clock and the power reserve sub-dial at three o'clock have white rings that resemble the Mercedes-Benz G-Class' headlights.

Inspired by the typical design elements of the G-Class and the bold color scheme of the recently launched Grand Edition, the striking design of the Big Pilot’s Watch AMG G 63 is luxurious and almost exuberant,” IWC Schaffhausen Chief Design Officer Christian Knoop stated.

The Mercedes-AMG G 63 “Grand Edition” emphasizes the brand’s outstanding status among off-road vehicles. Only 1,000 units of this limited edition model are available. It is finished in Manufaktur night black magno with gold-colored accents to create a striking visual contrast.

The Big Pilot’s Watch AMG G 63 is now available in IWC boutiques, authorized retail partners, and online at IWC.com.
