BYD Cars PH teases upcoming Sealion 7 prior to MIAS 2026 preview

MANILA: BYD Cars Philippines has posted a teaser for the upcoming Sealion 7 all-electric midsize sport utility vehicle (SUV). The model was posted by the ACMobility-led company on its social media page a few days before the 2026 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS)

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Where will BYD Cars Philippines launch the Sealion 7?

BYD Cars PH will launch the Sealion 7 at the upcoming 2026 Manila International Auto Show.
  • How much horsepower and torque can the BYD Sealion 7 produce?

In other markets, the BYD Sealion 7’s AWD trim can produce up to 523 horsepower and 690 Newton-meters of torque.
  • Being an electric vehicle (EV) within the midsize SUV category, the Sealion 7 will likely face the Tesla Model Y in the local market. Invariably, this is BYD’s first all-electric midsize SUV introduction since the Tang, but the Sealion 7’s coupe-like but high-roofed design was clearly penned to rival Tesla’s popular EV nameplate.

For now, BYD’s local arm has yet to disclose the upcoming model’s specs. So, while we wait for its introduction at 2026 MIAS, let’s check out its global version to learn more about what it is offering to prospective adopters.

    BYD Sealion 7: global specs

In markets where it is available, the BYD Sealion 7 comes in two forms: an all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant and a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) trim. The RWD trim can produce up to 308 horsepower (hp) and 380 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. In comparison, the AWD can dish out 523 hp and 690 Nm of torque.

With those figures, the AWD is clearly positioned as the top-spec trim.

Range-wise, the model can cover up to 567 kilometers (km), according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). It also has regenerative braking, a vehicle-to-load capability, and a direct-current (DC) fast-charging feature that can top it up from 10-80 percent in just 30 minutes.

Similar to many BYD nameplates, the model comes with a semi-automatic damping system for its front double wishbone and rear multi-link suspension systems. It also comes with front and rear ventilated disc brakes.

Style-wise, the BYD Sealion 7 follows the same design conventions as other nameplates bearing the Sealion designation. In fact, it has the same front fascia as the Sealion 6 DM-i, barring a more closed-off grille and a smaller lower vent.

The rear section of the vehicle likewise borrows some elements from the BYD Tang DM-i, namely a chunky rear diffuser and a somewhat identically shaped LED taillight bar.

Otherwise, the coupe-like proportions of the vehicle make it appear more like a large hatchback than an SUV. The aforementioned goes together with its sleek exterior bits, such as its flush door handles, power-folding/adjustable side mirrors, and 19-inch wheels.

Other notable exterior features of the global-spec BYD Sealion 7 include a power tailgate, a panoramic sunroof, and a dual-spoiler rear end.

In markets such as Europe and Australia, the upcoming BYD Sealion 7 comes with the following dimensions:

    Length (in millimeters)

    4,830

    Width (in mm)

    1,925

    Height (in mm)

    1,620

    Wheelbase length (in mm)

    2,930

    Ground clearance (in mm)

    140 (unladen)

Inside the global-spec BYD Sealion 7 is a five-seater layout equipped with Nappa leather seats, automatic air conditioning, and front seats with ventilation and massage functions.

For its displays, the model comes with a 15.6-inch central touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Depending on the variant, it also has a head-up display, a 50-watt wireless charging pad, a 128-color ambient lighting system.

Cargo aboard the model is kept in a 520-liter trunk, which can be expanded up to around 1,700 liters with the rear seats folded down. If those aren’t enough, the model also gets a 58-liter front trunk.

The BYD Sealion 7’s basic safety kit are consisted of features commonly found on other SUV models in the market right now. Those, however, are reinforced by the following advanced driver-assist systems:

    • Autonomous emergency braking
    • Adaptive cruise control
    • Blind spot detection
    • Lane support system
    • Predictive collision technology
    • Driver monitoring
    • Rear-cross traffic alert

As a reminder, BYD Cars Philippines will launch the Sealion 7 at the 2026 MIAS, which is scheduled to kick off from April 9-12 at the World Trade Center Metro Manila and the Philippine Trade Training Center, both in Pasay City.

No pricing for the nameplate were shared for now. So, for those interested in this upcoming EV, catch the Sealion 7’s launch at 2026 MIAS and see it up close and personal.
