Mitsubishi Evo to make a comeback as a crossover?

MANILA: Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is a legend without a hair of doubt and the discontinuation of the performance-oriented sedan certainly didn’t go well in the automobile universe. However, just a year after the Lancer Evolution was discontinued, Mitsubishi came up with the e-Evolution Concept.

However, unlike the standard Lancer Evolution, the concept vehicle was a crossover. Along with the unveiling of the concept, the Japanese automaker also revealed the car had a Dual Motor Active Yaw Control (AYC) system and 4WD. It has been around 2 years since the e-Evolution came out and we finally have more details about the vehicle.

Reports coming from Forbes reveal quite a lot about the upcoming Evolution. For starters, the product will most probably be a joint venture of Mitsubishi and Nissan. Not only Nissan is said to lead the development of the new Evolution but will also provide the platform of X-Trail for the fresh electric crossover. With the role of Nissan to be a major one, the crossover is also expected to feature Nissan’s Pro-Pilot driver assistance system, e-Power System, and 4WD.

To charge the battery pack, the Evolution crossover may come housing a 1.5-litre turbocharged motor in the form of a generator. What further strengthens the chances of the new Evolution being a close reality is the fact that Nissan and Mitsubishi have already worked together and made vehicles like Grand Livina and Xpander which share parts and platform.

Moreover, the two automakers also have ample experience in developing and producing electric vehicles. The testaments of the sheer expertise are the Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.
