Motolite reinforces commitment to sustainability with shift to solar panels

MANILA: Motolite was acknowledged as one of the most environmentally friendly energy users in the Philippines due to its ongoing transition to sustainable solar panels for powering its production and sales facilities.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How much photovoltaic systems has Motolite installed in its facilities?

The automotive battery provider has installed around 7,600 kilowatt peak of photovoltaic systems in its facilities.
  • How much energy is saved by these photovoltaic systems?

The photovoltaic systems installed in Motolite's facilities can save an estimated 9.66-million kilowatt hours of energy and reduce 2,346 tons of carbon emissions annually.
  • The automotive battery provider has installed around 7,600 kilowatt peak (kWp) of photovoltaic (PV) systems in its facilities. This translates to an estimated 9.66-million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity saved and 2,346 tons of carbon emissions reduced annually.

Motolite’s battery production plants in Bulacan alone now have a PV system capacity of 7,472 kWp, reducing their carbon footprint by 2,346 tons.

“Motolite deserves recognition as one of the most environment-friendly brands in the world due to its investments in making its operations sustainable. Its use of solar panels in powering its stores and manufacturing facilities complements its recycling initiatives for used lead acid batteries, which is a great example of urban mining. Definitely, Motolite is a good private sector model that the public should support,” Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI) Chairman Dr. Jesus Arranza stated.

To reduce the company’s greenhouse gas emissions by another 1,177 tons, Motolite aims to finish the installation of solar panels in several facilities over the next six months. This is expected to result in electricity savings of 5,047,016 kWh.

The recycling facility of Evergreen Environmental Resources Incorporated, the accredited used lead acid battery recycler of Motolite, also targets to achieve a PV system capacity of 1,250 kWp. This is expected to save 1.46 million kWh of energy and cut 340.38 tons of carbon emissions.

Motolite is also looking forward to the completion of its first ground-mount solar installation by March 2024. This will help reduce the company’s carbon footprint by 562.2 tons and save 2,411,409 kWh of electricity.
