Nissan showcases Concept 20-23 electrified hatch

MANILA: Nissan Design Europe (NDE) celebrated its 20th anniversary by unveiling the Concept 20-23, an all-new sporty electric concept car.

The name Concept 20-23 is a nod to NDE's 20th year as well as Nissan's traditional number: 2 (ni) 3 (san). This new concept car gives a modern twist to Nissan's Pike models, which include the Be-1, Pao, Figaro, and S-Cargo.

During the unveiling of the concept car in London, Nissan Senior Vice President for Global Design Alfonso Albaisa recalled how the team came up with the idea.

"The young team here at NDE was given a simple brief: design a fun electric city car that you'd like to drive everyday in London. The 20-23 Concept that they designed is a compact hatchback which is strongly influenced by the online racing world. I love the story it tells about how the worlds of modern city living, online gaming, and zero-emissions mobility intersect," Albaisa shared.

Online racing and Nissan's participation in Formula E inspired the designers to give the Concept 20-23 an aerodynamically optimized look. The front of the car features a clean surface with distinctive semi-circle LED headlights and turn signal lights. The car's dynamic look can be seen from the side, as it is designed with extended wheel arches with large wheels and low profile tires. The top side of the wheel arches have vented louvers to minimize the pressure that can produce air resistance in the wheel bay.

At the rear, the Concept 20-23 is designed with a large single-piece spoiler that seamlessly emerges from the roof rail. The rear lights also feature the thin upper and lower semi-circle LED.

The Concept 20-23's exterior is painted in gray, with the number 23 on the rear three-quarters.

Entry is facilitated through two scissor doors. Two deep bucket seats guarantee firm support and come with large, race car-inspired head-support.

The concept car is also designed with a rectangular sports steering wheel and a couple of screens that show vital information.

Albaisa described the Concept 20-23 as "a fitting celebration of 20 years of NDE where bold ideas have taken shape and come to life."
