Nissan unveils all-new X-Trail, Juke EV, Xterra, Skyline

MANILA: Nissan Motor Company Limited looks to bring more customers back to the brand by unveiling the latest iteration of some of its notable nameplates.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What nameplates had actual car models on stage during the presentation?

Actual models of the all-new Nissan X-Trail and Juke EV have been showcased at Nissan's presentation, hinnting that these two models might be poroduced first.
  • What cars were presented using video clips?

The all-new Nissan Xterra and Skyline were presented using video clips, which is why these models might come in later in the pipeline.
  • The preview of the all-new models is part of the Japanese carmaker’s long-term, customer–centric, direction, themed “Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life.”

“This is the right moment to articulate Nissan’s long‑term vision as we look beyond the Re:Nissan plan and set a clear path for the future,” Nissan Motor Company Limited President and Chief Executive Officer Ivan Espinosa was quoted as saying.

“Our vision defines where Nissan is headed, with customer experience as our guiding priority. By advancing mobility intelligence, we will deliver products and technologies that are safer, more intuitive, and more accessible with outstanding value and a more rewarding overall experience,” he added.

    All-new X-Trail/Rogue

Headlining the presentation was the all-new Nissan X-Trail (also known as Rogue in other markets).

“I am excited to present to you the new X-Trail and Rouge Hybrid e-Power. With this vehicle, we bring intelligence and electrification to where it matters most —- everyday family mobility,” Espinosa explained.

Further, the Kanagawa-headquartered carmaker’s head honcho noted in his address three advantages that would-be owners can enjoy with the newest version of the crossover, which are the marque’s e-Power hybrid system, e-4orce technology, and ProPilot suite of safety features.

As we have all seen on the Nissan Kicks e-Power, the model uses a combination of an internal combustion engine, which serves as a generator for the electric motor that drives the vehicle. This could appeal to more car buyers, especially now that fuel prices are spiking globally.

On the other hand, the e-4orce can help achieve stability and control in most driving conditions. Meanwhile, ProPilot enhances occupant safety and comfort.

Design–wise, the all-new Nissan X-Trail looks sharp and modern with a “digital” honeycomb grille that uses the said pattern to integrate its daytime running lights. The headlamps are tucked neatly, flanking the center garnish that cradles the company’s badge at the center.

The lower font bumper looks snappy too, with plenty of angular appliques and a robust-looking bumper with horizontal slats.

Its side profile shares similar angular treatment with thin black wheel arc cladding, black pillars and a black top, as well as a set of two-tone wheels.

The rear-end features a horizontal light bar and further angular trims to round up its aggressive–looking design.

    Juke EV

In keeping with its reputation for breaking barriers, in terms of design, the Nissan Juke returns with a bold new look.

“And here is the all-new Juke. It is agile, compact, and unmistakably Nissan,” the Chief Executive stated.

“Juke EV carries personality and emotion, showing that intelligence and character belong together. Always bold, always distinctive, and now fully electric,” he explained.

“But our vision goes beyond relevance. It is about inspiration,” Espinosa concluded.

Not much was discussed about the all-new Nissan Juke, but it appears that once it reaches Philippine shores, it will compete with other electric crossovers such as the Suzuki e-Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser.

    All-new Xterra

Nissan Motor Company Limited looks like it is intent on keeping its rugged, off-road offerings, as evidenced by its all-new Xterra presentation.

All we saw was the grille of the would-be sport utility vehicle, but the fascia alone tells us that it has a go-anywhere, do-anything attitude.

And with the direction the company is taking, we won’t be surprised if it is fitted with a hybrid powertrain.

“Nissan Xterra returns to those who value authenticity and capability. Built for real adventure with body-on–frame strength and purpose-driven design,” Espinosa said.

    All-new Skyline

Arguably, the most iconic car to have donned the Nissan badge is the Skyline. And the sports sedan appears to be getting fresh updates, as the company also showcased clips during the presentation, which will excite enthusiasts.

Like the all–new Nissan Xterra, no actual vehicle was presented on stage, just videos of detail shoots that leave much to the fans’ imagination.

From what was shown, the nameplate retains the circular taillamps, but as it appears, the sedan now gets a sharp-looking front end. A new “Skyline” badge is also seen on the bonnet of the vehicle.

“And finally, a name that represents the origin and soul of Nissan — Skyline,” Nissan’s big boss commented.

“A re-imagined icon of Japanese engineering and driving passion with performance and precision,” he said.
