KEY TAKEAWAYS
What concept cars did Nissan unveil at the ongoing Auto China 2026?
At the ongoing Auto China 2026, Nissan unveiled the Terrano PHEV and Urban SUV PHEV concept cars. When will Nissan release the production version of the Terrano PHEV concept?
Nissan will debut the production version of the Terrano PHEV concept in one year’s time.If the name sounds familiar, the Nissan Terrano was a popular sport utility vehicle (SUV) officially sold in the local market from the 1990s until the early 2000s. The last global version of the old Terrano nameplate was sold in Europe until 2005, equipped with a 3.0- or 2.7-liter turbodiesel engine.
Like the older iteration beloved by millennial and Gen Xer car enthusiasts, the new concept model is described by the Japanese car brand as a hardcore off-road vehicle. On the one hand, the marque also said that it is propelled by “the latest PHEV technology.”
Notably, the Terrano PHEV concept is a part of the car brand’s RE:Nissan strategy, which previously identified China as a key market. In other words, the concept, along with several others, will be released as production models within one year as a part of the Yokohama-headquartered marque’s new energy vehicle thrust for the Chinese market.
It wasn’t stated whether the eventual production version of the Nissan Terrano PHEV concept car will reach the Southeast Asian market (including the Philippines). Then again, the Terrano name retains strong recognition among Filipinos, so we are hoping that its production version will land on our shores in the near future as well.
There’s also the fact that Nissan is due to export the mass-production version of the Terrano PHEV concept, so fingers crossed.
In terms of styling, Zigwheels Philippines, who is currently in attendance at Auto China 2026, noted the concept SUV’s bulging front and rear bumpers, beefy roof rails, all-terrain tires, and its chunky-looking wheel arches. These are combined with a flat-roofed silhouette that is somewhat similar to the old flat-top Nissan Patrol (GQ version).
We can likewise surmise that the concept (and its future production version) features a 4x4 system based on a dual-motor electric setup.

Nissan Urban SUV PHEV concept
Apart from the tough-looking Terrano PHEV concept, Nissan also debuted the Urban SUV PHEV concept.
In contrast to the Terrano PHEV, the Urban SUV PHEV concept is more suited to on-road travel, particularly in urban areas. Again, no specifications for this model were shared, but the brand mentioned that it shares plenty of qualities with the recently introduced Chinese-spec Dongfeng Nissan NX8.
For the unaware, the Dongfeng Nissan NX8 is based on an 800-volt electric vehicle (EV) architecture fitted with a fast-charging system that can recover up to 300 kilometers (km) of range in just six minutes. The NX8 also has a range-extended (REEV) version with a total range of 1,450 km.
On that note, the new Nissan Urban SUV PHEV concept’s future production model could share the same platform as the EV and REEV Dongfeng Nissan NX8 versions. Do take this with a grain of salt, though.
Interestingly, the brand did share that the Dongfeng Nissan N7 - an all-electric mid-size sedan- will be introduced to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region, though no timeframe for this was shared.
