PHEV tech crosses paths with 4x4 performance in Suzuki Across
MANILA: Suzuki has premiered the new Across, a sporty and robust SUV fitted with a plug-in hybrid and E-four electronic 4x4 system. This brings heightened efficiency and performance with the styling and capacity of a completely modern SUV.
The Across is regarded as the first model under the partnership agreement between Suzuki and Toyota. It is set to roll out in Europe by mid-2020.
The new Suzuki Across has been configured to stand out through its robust polygonal body, combining a characteristic SUV toughness and a sporty front physique. It features a large open grille, distinct SUV wheel arch moldings, and a bumper with unique silver under garnish that aids in demonstrating the all-round capabilities of the vehicle.
Other notable features include a polished face, high-quality 19-inch alloy wheels with black-gloss coating, and LED headlamps having a bi-beam projector (blending high and low beams) with LED DRL.
The new Suzuki Across can be availed in six color variants, namely Dark Blue Mica, Grey Metallic, Sensual Red Mica, Attitude Black Mica, Silver Metallic, and Pearl Crystal Shine.
A well-refined plug-in hybrid system brings outstanding fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions to the Across, with seamless acceleration and rapid response.
At the center of the plug-in hybrid system is a strong front electric motor that brings low speeds and aggressive torque and unifies with a powerful 2.5-liter petrol engine for faster acceleration at higher speeds.
The system outputs 270Nm and 180 hp, with the electric motor acquiring energy from a high-capacity lithium-ion battery placed underneath the floor.
The A25A-FXS Dynamic Force engine is matched to the electric motor. It serves as a battery charger and delivers power assistance to the electric motor, especially in high-speed driving if needed.
As it has been configured to provide outstanding fuel efficiency and high output, the engine has a high compression ratio and long stroke. Both port fuel injection (PFI) and direct cylinder fuel injection (DI) differ according to driving conditions to increase fuel efficiency and output while reducing emissions.
The plug-in hybrid system has four modes: Battery Charger mode, HV mode, Auto EV/HV mode, and Default EV mode.

The new Suzuki Across is fitted with the E-Four electronic 4x4 system, which guarantees effective and efficient 4x4 performance for greater confidence in handling and more control and stability despite slippery surfaces like snow-covered roads.

The interior of the new Suzuki Across has been configured to exhibit a sense of driving confidence, luxury, and comfort. Its well-designed quality accents and upholstery throughout the car are matched with soft padding on the door trims and dashboard.

Though cabin space is configured for adequate comfort in both the first and second rows, no compromise is observed in terms of the luggage space. Its large 490-liter luggage compartment gives sufficient space for luggage storage for a broad range of purposes and lifestyles.

The Across also includes a wide array of suitable storage spaces, which include a console box, cupholders, center tray, passenger’s side trays, and driver’s side trays.

As it is completely fitted with the newest smart safety features, the Across provides peace of mind and confidence for the passengers and driver on every journey. Some of its notable safety features are driving assist functions like the dynamic radar cruise control, lane tracing assist, and pre-collision system.
Other advanced driver assistance safety features include blind spot monitor, rear crossing traffic alert, road sign assist, brake hold, and the eCall.
