Porsche PH introduces all-new 911 Dakar

MANILA: Porsche Philippines has introduced the all-new 911 Dakar.

Unveiled over the weekend at the Porsche Philippines Showroom, PGA Cars Center in Global City, the 911 Dakar is the brand’s first two-door sports car that boasts exceptional off-road capabilities. It is named in honor of the marque’s historic triumph in the Paris-Dakar rally in 1984 where the German carmaker emerged victorious after fielding a modified 911 equipped with an innovative all-wheel-drive system.

According to Porsche’s local wing, the 911 Dakar has undergone extensive off-road testing. For example, the engineering team led by General Project Manager Achim Lamparter took the off-road sports car to the Château de Lastours test track in southern France to assess its performance on rally courses and fine-tune its suspension.

Overall, the rigorous testing phase covered more than half a million kilometers (km) — more than 10,000 km of which were dirt roads.

Porsche 911/718 Model Line Vice President Frank Moser lauded the 911 Dakar’s performance in desert environments, where its lightweight construction, powerful engine, and short wheelbase all contributed to an exhilarating driving experience.

Development driver Lars Kern echoed these praises and expressed his satisfaction with the car’s handling and traction on various surfaces, including gravel and asphalt.

Likewise, Porsche brand ambassador Jörg Bergmeister commended the vehicle’s driving dynamics on both loose surfaces and asphalt, emphasizing its remarkable resemblance to the iconic Porsche 911.

Renowned Porsche works driver Romain Dumas also complimented the 911 Dakar’s spirited off-road capabilities. He highlighted its ability to handle challenging terrains with ease, including jumps and sweeping drifts.

Similarly, two-time world rally champion Walter Röhrl praised the Porsche 911 Dakar’s precise handling and impressive performance on compacted snow surfaces after he drove it on the icy landscapes of Arjeplog, Sweden.

“The Philippine launch of the Porsche 911 Dakar promises enthusiasts an unforgettable driving experience that combines the legendary performance of the 911 with unparalleled off-road capabilities,” Porsche Philippines wrote in a press statement.
