Should GWM PH bring in Ora 5 HEV?

BEIJING: With the Ora 5 battery electric vehicle set to arrive in the Philippines within the year, GWM Philippines should consider introducing the model’s hybrid (HEV) powertrain option in the country too.

The model—seen at the ongoing Auto China 2026—seems to be a promising offering to the local market given that the electrified offerings taking the market by storm as seen in the latest report of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers in the Philippines.

Aside from that, the aforementioned version has already made its way in Southeast Asia after being launched in Thailand recently.

Here is what the model could be fitted with should the Luxuriant-led automotive distributor decide to introduce it to the local market.

Vehicle specifications

On paper, the GWM Ora 5 HEV — which will compete with the likes of Honda HR-V, BYD Atto 3, and Geely EX-5—is powered by a 1.5-turbocharged gasoline engine that can deliver up 220 horses and 476 Newton-meters.

Here’s what the powertrain can dish out:

The setup all also lets the vehicle accelerate 0-100 kilometers per hour in 7.7 seconds. Driving experience can also be optimized using the six drive modes—delivering an overall efficiency of 45.2 percent.

Assuring stability and maneuverability are the independent suspensions for the front and rear, while halts and decelerations are assured by the integrated braking control system.

Further, the GWM Ora 5 HEV’s chassis has been tested under 76 road conditions.

Outside, the GWM Ora 5 sports a youthful vibe with a flowing silhouette complemented by the following portions:

• Four-leaf clover wheel design

Meanwhile, the crossover’s cabin crossover comes with rose gold accents as well as the following appliques:
