Silverstone Classic postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19 crisis

MANILA: Organizers of the Silverstone Classic announced on May 26 that the most significant motor racing festival in the world is canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The three-day classic racing festival, which annually attracts thousands of vehicle owners and over 100,000 visitors camping out in the Silverstone circuit of the UK, was initially scheduled from July 31 to August 2.

The trailblazing Silverstone Classic had big plans this summer to commemorate its 30^th anniversary with an exceptional “greatest hits” racecard. Aside from motor racing, the Silverstone Classic also includes other activities and events such as live music, car clubs, family activities, retro run, shopping villages, and auctions.

Nevertheless, the organizers have confirmed that they will have all activities and celebrations in next year’s event, in line with the government regulations on social distancing.

Those who have purchased early bird and super early bird tickets will be provided with the option of either obtaining a full refund or carrying over their tickets to the 2021 event. All inquiries involving tickets will be entertained this June on the official website.

The exact dates for the 2021 Silverstone Classic have not been confirmed. However, the organizers have assured everyone that the details will be published on the official website soon. The Silverstone Classic happens typically two weeks following the British Grand Prix at the end of July.

The CEO of Classic organizer Goose Live Events, Nick Wigley, explained that it appears challenging to hold the event this year in a safe, socially distanced approach given its nature and the current situation of the whole world. Having the annual event indoors is also not a feasible alternative during this time.

Wigley also added that being an autonomous events company, they are grateful to have established the Silverstone Classic into a world-renowned iconic motorsport festival that petrolheads, racing drivers, families, and car aficionados enjoy yearly.
