WATCH: Speeding PUB topples concrete barrier

MANILA: Another Joanna Jesh Transport PUB (public utility bus) is in trouble after it was caught on video of a motorist’s dashcam speeding in the EDSA Busway and knocking over at least a couple of concrete barriers.

The video, which was published by the DOTr (Department of Transportation) just this morning and can be seen here, shows the Joanna Jesh Transport with plate number CAP 5133 going extremely fast, sideswiping at least two concrete barriers along this stretch (who knows how many more ahead). One barrier falls down and blocks the road while the other damages the body panel of a white van.

A message was posted by the DOTr on their website for all PUB drivers and it read:

“Para sa mga bus driver: Ang EDSA Busway ay ginawa upang tulungan kayo at ang mga pasahero ninyo. HINDI ITO GINAWA PARA ABUSUHIN NINYO.

Ano po ang dahilan para magpatakbo na parang nakikipag-karera? Ano ang dahilan para ilagay ninyo sa alanganin ang buhay ng mga pasahero ninyo at iba pang taong gumagamit ng kalsada? HINDI PO NAMIN ITO MAPAPALAMPAS.

Kahit anong ganda ng proyekto, kung kaskasero at walang disiplina ang gumagamit nito, balewala.”

(To all bus drivers: The EDSA Busway was made to help you and your passengers. It was not made for you to abuse it.

What is the reason to drive like you’re racing? What is the reason to put in danger the lives of your passengers including people using the road? We will not let this pass.

No matter how good the project is, if those who use it don’t have discipline and drive too fast, it will be for naught.)

The DOTr immediately raised the concern with the LTO (Land Transportation Office) and the LTFRB (Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board), and the Board quickly responded by sending the Joanna Jesh Transport and the driver a Show Cause Order.

Netizens were urged to report errant and speeding PUB drivers.
