Subaru WRX STI set to debut at 2019 Detroit Motor Show

MANILA: Subaru has been doing pretty well with its current breed of SUVs (especially the Forester) and we can very rightly consider it to be one of the most popular models in the segment. However, let’s not forget that the STI models are the ones that played a huge role behind making the company what it is today. Hence, keeping that in mind, the company will debut the new WRX STI at the upcoming Detroit Motor Show.

Subaru has even set itself into teasing the STI in every way possible. In a video, the WRX STI has been seen tearing through the famed Virginia International Raceway, albeit in complete camouflage. However, even with the covers on, keen eyes would surely notice the prominently aggressive additions at all ends. The aggressive front fascia and rugged fenders add to the glory.

Furthermore, the winged rear spoiler is very tall and add to the racy approach. The video is named “From Japan with Love” and there is a telling that it is coming to America for the first time ever.

And with this, there is some air to the rumours that the “S209” series will be getting to the US market as well. The limited run models (S208) earlier made its way internationally but in selected destinations only. However, the models are on its course to be internationally sold nameplates.

The previous “S” badged model, the WRX STI S208, was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show 2017. It is powered by a four-cylinder, 2.0-litre turbo engine that could thump out 329 PS of power. It has torque vectoring at both ends and Bilstein DampMatic II dampers too. The front spoiler is really large and prominent and the rear spoiler is made of carbon fibre. It rolls on BBS alloy wheels (19-inch). The Recaro bucket seats highlight the cabin.

The Subaru S208 was just into a limited run of 450 units. With the S209 making its way into the US, we can expect it to be as potent inside out.
