Suzuki gets ‘improved packaging of automotive injectors’ award from WPO

MANILA: Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) has been recognized in the World Packaging Organization (WPO) WorldStar 2026 competition for its “Improved Packaging for Overseas Automotive Injectors.”

Jointly created with Oji Container Company Limited, the aforementioned packaging also received the “Director-General of the Manufacturing Industries Bureau, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Award” at the 2025 Japan Packaging Contest.

Per SMC, the new packaging uses a cardboard material that lets injectors be stored vertically. This is in stark contrast to the previous version wherein it comes in horizontal arrangement and has plastic trays and cushioning materials.

The modification led to improved packing efficiency, reduced assembly time, and the complete elimination of plastic packaging materials.

“Suzuki remains committed to embodying its philosophy of ‘Smaller, Fewer, Lighter, Shorter, Beauty’ in its development of packaging materials that are both economical and environmentally conscious. Furthermore, the company is dedicated to enhancing workability from the perspective of the individuals handling the packaging,” SMC noted.

Enhanced Packing Efficiency	The altering of the packaging improved the number of injectors that can be accommodate by 25 percent (from 96 to 120) Spatial volume went down by six percent
Improved Workability (Simplified Packaging)	The process of simply inserting the products into pre-defined holes reduced assembly time by 65 percent (compared to previous that cushioning materials have to be added)
Reduced Environmental Impact (Lightweight Packaging)	The transition from plastic to cardboard packaging has achieved a complete elimination of plastic materials.
Cost Reduction	The adoption of more affordable cardboard materials and a reduction in the number of components trimmed down the material costs by 64-percent
