Suzuki Indonesia launches updated S-Presso, all-new Grand Vitara PH next?

MANILA: In Indonesia, Suzuki has dropped new models there — the 2023 Suzuki S-Presso and 2023 Suzuki Grand Vitara. The launch of the subcompact hatchback and compact SUV in Southeast Asia, respectively, could result in the anticipation — or indication — of their arrival here in the Philippines.

Updated 2023 Suzuki S-Presso

The Suzuki S-Presso mini SUV had been updated in India, where it was given a new 1.0-liter gasoline engine and more features. Southeast Asia is now receiving similar changes as well.

The powertrain comes first. The new 1.0-liter gasoline engine generates 89Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm and 66 horsepower at 5,500 rpm. A five-speed manual transmission and a five-speed automatic gear shift (AGS) are available to buyers. Units in Indonesia now include a start-stop capability for increased fuel efficiency, just like their counterparts in India.

The list of safety features now includes an electronic stability program (ESP), which ought to increase traction on slick road surfaces. A new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, steering wheel controls, hill hold control (for AGS units only), and electric side mirror adjustment are among the further upgrades in the 2023 Suzuki S-Presso.

2023 Suzuki Grand Vitara

One of the company's iconic nameplates both domestically and internationally was the small SUV known as the Suzuki Vitara. It was renowned for being dependable and tough.

The Suzuki Grand Vitara stands out stylistically from the Vitara family of vehicles thanks to a new hexagonal grille, split headlights with LED daytime running lights (DRLS), and LEDs that wrap around the crossover's back end. The crossover has 210mm of ground clearance, squared-off wheel arches with some side cladding, and 17-inch wheels with a diamond-cut pattern.

As for equipment, the 2023 Suzuki Grand Vitara has black leather interior, a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging, and a panoramic sunroof as a "grand" option in the Vitara series. A heads-up display, cruise control, rear air conditioning vents, and a rear center armrest with cup holders are further options for the top-tier version. Moreover, Indonesia has a 360-degree camera system, which greatly facilitates driving and makes the vehicle easier to navigate.

The fact that Suzuki is really doubling down on its mild hybrid powertrains may be the biggest event surrounding this launch. A battery, Suzuki's Integrated Starting Generator (ISG), a 1.5-liter K15C four-cylinder engine, and a six-speed automatic transmission are all standard on the Grand Vitara. Suzuki refers to this mild-hybrid system, which enhances the power delivery and fuel efficiency of the company's engines, as the Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SVHS).
