Toyota sells more than 4-M cars worldwide in Jan.-May 2024

MANILA: Toyota Motor Corporation shared it already sold 4,039,177 vehicles worldwide for the first five months of 2024. 

With the car maker’s subsidiaries, Hino and Daihatsu included, the conglomerate's total cumulative sales globally for the year stand at 4,249,471 examples. 

In May 2024 alone, the company sold 840,681 vehicles worldwide — reflecting an increase of 0.3 percent compared to the previous year.  In the same month, Toyota sold 102,071 units in its home country Japan. For the rest of the world, the carmaker had a record-high retail performance of 738,610.  

In the local setting, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Incorporated (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association's (TMA) reported that the Aichi-headquartered marque's local arm saw 86,257 Toyota vehicles roll out of its dealership network in January-May 2024 — equivalent to an 11.7-percent growth.

Toyota, on the other hand, relayed that 18,677  units have been turned over in May 2024 – which reflects a 4.5 percent year-on-year increase.

On both year-to-date and May 2024 sales in Asia, the Philippines is ranked fourth.  Higher up in rankings is Thailand in third, Indonesia in second, and China at the leading the sales rally with 632,569 units sold in 2024. 

Toyota's biggest export market is North America, with 38,080 units in May, and a cumulative total of 259,785 for the year. Asia, meanwhile, enjoyed a cumulative export of 143,913 vehicles; Europe with 100,396; Middle East at 112,348; and Africa, 23,717. 

The marque sold 360,872 electrified vehicles in May 2024 and 1,717,558 worldwide from January-May 2024. The said figures include battery electric vehicles, mild hybrid electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and fuel-cell electric vehicles. 

Production

Worldwide production for Toyota in May 2024 was tallied at 812,191 — which is part of the 3,852,979 units produced for January to May of the year.

For the Philippines, Toyota made 5,821 units in May 2024, with a cumulative total of 25,913 units for 2024. The said figures equate to a year-on-year increase of 10 percent and 5.5 percent, respectively
