Toyota to get Haas F1 Team title sponsorship next year

MANILA: Toyota will be the title sponsor of the Haas Team in the Formula 1 series next year.

The aforementioned development marks another milestone for the Japanese automaker since it returned to the sport after leaving in 2009.

As a result, Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) will take the title sponsorship from Moneygram and the team being renamed as “TGR Haas F1 Team.”

Specifically, the Japanese automaker’s latest move is part of the technical partnership between the American team and the firm’s motorsport and research and development division.

Formula 1 shared in its website that the multi-year partnership — which was signed in 2024 — includes the creation of Haas' first Testing of Previous Car (TPC) program launched recently. Aside from that, the deal is said to have also allowed the installing of their first-ever personal simulator at the team's base in Banbury, United Kingdom, which is scheduled to come online next season.

For its part, Toyota Gazoo Racing said on its official social media page that the move will “further strengthen the cooperation and fight together in the three elements that are essential for car construction: People, Pipeline, and Product (3P).”

“I am once again moved by seeing young drivers and engineers at TGR believing in their potential and driving towards even bigger dreams as we go through the challenges of 2025. And now I feel it clearly. —Toyota is finally making moves,” Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) Chair Akio Toyoda was quoted in the social media post.

Meanwhile, he expressed gratitude to Team Principal Ayao Komatsu “for believing in the potential of our young colleagues at TGR and facing the future with the same perspective and the same passion”, saying that the 3P will move at a different rate than and furthering into the collaboration with Haas next year.

“As the younger generation begins to climb the leading ladder to the world - it's time to finally make that future a reality. To create a Japan that loves motorsports, embraces dreams, and seizes them into their own hands. Together with Jean, Komatsu, and Haas people, we will take on the challenge of creating a ‘culture’ and a ‘team’ from here on. Toyota has finally started running,” the TMC’s top executive — who also carries the nickname “Morizo” in the racing scene — noted.

Serving as the youngest team in the grid, the Moneygram Haas F1 Team entered the series in 2016. For this season, it currently sits at the eighth spot.

TGR-led motorsport events in PH

In the Philippines, the automotive brand is conducting motorsport activities.

Spearheaded by its local arm Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) , the two events that have gained much traction are:

• TGR Philippine Cup (which was then called Toyota Vios Cup)
• TGR Philippines eSports GT Championship (formerly known as Toyota GR GT Cup)

TMP also has yet to conduct another Toyota Gazoo Racing Festival that was done when Toyoda visited the country in August 2023.
