Updated BMW 318i Professional now available in PH

MANILA: SMC Asia Car Distributors Corporation, the authorized distributor of BMW vehicles in the Philippine market, has rolled out the updated 318i Professional. 

Per the company, the updated BMW 318i Professional boasts numerous improvements when it comes to comfort and driving-oriented features. It is likewise touted to provide a good combination of elegant styling and punchy on-road performance. 

To note, this latest version of the BMW 3 Series for the Philippine market is the second “Life Cycle Impulse” (facelift) for the nameplate, and it is still based on the G20 platform. 

Powertrain

Under the hood of the updated BMW 318i Professional is the German carmaker’s 2.0-liter TwinPower inline-four gasoline engine that’s mated to an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. At maximum, the said powertrain can generate up to 156 horsepower (hp) and 250 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. 

To optimize performance, the updated BMW nameplate comes with the Driving Experience Control - which allows for seamless switching between comfort, Economy Pro, and Sport drive modes. Further driving engagement can likewise come from its paddle shifters. 

According to BMW, the model is capable of returning a fuel economy (city/highway combined) of up to 15.3 kilometers per liter.

Exterior

For its exterior, the revamped BMW 318i received a more impactful appearance courtesy of its new inverted L-shaped LED daytime running lamps. The German marque likewise provided the sedan with revised front and rear bumpers.

Otherwise, the latest version of the model retains the 3 Series' familiar stance. It also carries the same silhouette, with additional eye-candy from its M high-gloss shadowline trim, and its set of 18-inch V-spoke light alloy wheels. 

Added convenience features for the sedan’s exterior include automatic LED headlamp functionality, rain-sensing wipers, and power-folding/adjustable side mirrors. Access to the car’s insides is likewise ensured by an automatic tailgate function and the BMW Comfort Access (keyless entry system).

Interior

Inside the BMW 318i Professional is a five-seater layout equipped with Leather Vernasca-upholstered seats, Dark Graphite matte interior trims, and a triple-zone automatic climate control system. The vents for its air-conditioning system were revised to look more modern and minimalist, but most of the model’s interior updates are for its cockpit. 

Specifically, the sedan now comes with a flat-bottom steering wheel with a refined “center spoke layout.” This new look for the sedan's steering wheel is said to provide a more tactile driving feel, while remaining comfortable during long driving stints. 

Additionally, the 318i Professional was kitted out with the BMW Live Cockpit Plus - a driver-centric collection of technologies consisting of a widescreen display that handles on-board navigation, entertainment, and vehicle data. Users of the model can likewise connect their smartphones to the car’s infotainment screen via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while sound is fed into the vehicle’s cabin via a high-fidelity (HiFi) speaker set. 

Additionally, the model comes with compatibility with the My BMW smartphone application, which allows for controlling remote vehicle functions, safety alerts, and navigation updates - among others. 

Safety

As standard, the BMW 318i Professional was equipped with a comprehensive set of safety gear. It has dual front airbags, side airbags, head airbags, dynamic stability control, dynamic traction control, and anti-lock braking. 

Other notable safety gear available to the 318i Professional includes, but is not limited to, the following: 

• Crash sensors
• ISOFIX child seat anchors
• Front and rear parking sensors
• Reverse camera
• Run-flat tires with an indicator

Moreover, the said features are reinforced by BMW’s Driving Assistant, which consists of collision prevention systems, as well as lane keep assist. Likewise, the model may come fitted with the BMW Parking Assistant. 

Price

The updated BMW 318i Professional retails in the Philippines at P3.49 million. It is also packaged with a five-year, or 200,000-kilometer warranty, whichever comes first.
