Welcome the G07 BMW X7
MANILA: All the BMW fanboys out there are in for a treat. It has already been raining cars since last week and now BMW joins the party with the production model of its X7 that was showcased as a concept named “Concept X7 iPerformance” last year. Rivaling with the Mercedes-Benz GLS, the new BMW X7 is capable of fitting up to 7 people in the 3 rows inside.
The BMW X7 makes the X5 look meek. The wheelbase measuring 3,105 mm is quite larger than the X5’s 2,975 mm. Standing at 1,805 mm tall, measuring up to 5,151 mm long and 2,000 mm wide, the X7 is 229 mm longer and 60 mm taller than the smaller X5. And when compared with the opponent Mercedes-Benz GLS, the BMW X7 is longer by 21 mm, and wider by 66 mm. BMW X7’s wheelbase is also bigger than the Mercedes-Benz’s GLS by 30 mm.
The slim LED headlamps with the double-kidney grille in between are carried over from the concept that was showcased last year. And with some more cash, one can upgrade them with an Adaptive Laserlight system. Also, staying true to the concept are the X7’s tail-lights with chrome bar setup. The large L-shaped outlets in the concept have, however, made way for the exhaust on either side. The wheels in the new BMW X7 are available in 21-inch or 22-inch options.
The interior of the BMW X7 has been teleported straight from the concept to the production car. The X7 features two 12.3-inch displays, one acting as the instrument console and the other fulfilling the duties of the car’s iDrive infotainment system. The X7 also comes equipped with a 10 speaker setup as standard.
The BMW X7 is powered by two diesel and petrol engines each. The two diesel options available are the X7 xDrive30d with a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel in-line six (265 PS and 620 Nm) and the X7 M50d housing a 3.0-litre in-line six (400 PS and 760 Nm). The petrol options comprise of the X7 xDrive40i, packing a 3.0-litre turbocharged in-line six cylinder engine (340 PS and 420 Nm) and the X7 xDrive50i, coming with a 4.4-litre turbocharged V8 (462 PS and 650 Nm). Power to the wheels is delivered via an eight-speed Steptronic unit, in tandem with BMW’s rear-biased xDrive all-wheel drive system.
Being produced at the BMW Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina, US, March 2019 will mark the BMW X7’s worldwide launch.
